Over last winter I replaced a broken timing chain. Also put on a used head from eBay because the rocker arms were broken when the chain snapped.
I adjusted the valves when I put everything back together. Adjusted them again this summer when the bike became difficult to start. Maybe 3000 miles??
Adjusted them again about a month later when the bike became difficult to start again. Maybe 1000 miles ??
Adjusted them again 8 days later when the bike became very difficult to start after 500 miles which includes a long 250 mile ride to higher elevations.
Only the intake valves get tight. The exhaust side has stayed the same throughout. This part has me stumped.
I use emgo pod filters and my exhaust is drilled out. I have tweaked on the jetting and mixture numerous numerous times and feel that it is close but not perfect.
This has never been a lock nut issue. I've checked and rechecked. They are always tight.
I'm confused.

I have not heard of your problrm before, but it sounds like u have a head problem, or perhaps the valve stems are stretching.

Since my last post and valve adjustment I've ridden maybe a hundred miles or so and now the bike wont start again.... I'm just going to go push it off a cliff.
Good times.

picture time... took my head off and sure enough the intake valves sunken deep into the head. valve out of the head... beyond worn out. here are the rocker arms from the different heads. the original one has a 26 on it as do all the others in that head. the rockers from the current head have a 32 on them and the two on the intake side are worn out. two on the exhaust side are good. will it matter if i use 26s and 32s together or should i get all new ones? also realized that the camshafts from the original head are solid and the ones on the ebay head are hollow. probably not important just thought it was interesting. so my plan is to take the original head and put all new valves, etc. in it... anybody had any experience with this? Im leaning on having a shop do it just to have the valve seats checked out and everything lapped in etc. wonder what that will cost me?

I think that I would use a matching set of rockers,so there wouldn't be any issues of uneven wear.Any time I ever reseated and lapped valves,I would put liquid in the combustion chamber and let set to see if any leaked through. If nothing leaked through, the valves were seated properly.A little old school, but it works.

What do the seats look like? Are they worn down too? Interesting?
