Wondering if anyone has tips on how to best correct a VIN number on the 454. I know, we're not "supposed to" do it... got that. I bought an 89 EN450 a few years back, had no title. I got it running well. NY DMV was a stone wall and wouldn't allow any titling options and the bike sat there as useful as a broken cinder block. So I bought a titled frame on eBay and drove several hours to pick it up.
Then came my dilemma: completely strip down the running EN450 and transplant every part to the title frame? Or take the easier route, and just modify the un-titled frame's VIN to make it the titled VIN.
I decided to do the strip-down/transplant method; but I let the bike sit for about 2 years or so because I was intimidated by the job. Now I've been diagnosed with cancer and I had a major surgery and will be in chemotherapy soon, and I've decided to try to make the VIN-modification plan work instead.
I bought some Harbor Freight Tools number/letter stamps but they're not exactly the same "font" as Kawasaki used. I'm not sure a partial re-stamp would work. I only have to change 5 or 6 characters, and they're things like turning an 8 into a 3, a 6 into a 9, a 9 into a 0... swaps that seem like they'd be doable.
Anyone have any hints? Should I just grind down the whole VIN and start over fresh with my HFT stamps? Know of a specific brand/model of stamping tools that appear identical to the factory Kawasaki characters?
Thanks.

You best check laws.....that could very well be totally illegal, just like crooks changing vin numbers on a car that they had stolen.

Yes, it's probably illegal for other people to do a vin swap. Not for me though (lol). I'm doing it for good reasons, not dishonest ones. Dying of cancer, so maybe lawman will gimme a break. Still asking if anyone knows what stamp set matches the existing. Or.... seeing if anybody wants to volunteer to come to my house and completely swap out all the parts from one bike onto a bare frame sitting next to it, for free, since I don't have the stamina anymore to do it myself and sure want to ride this thing before I kick. Since the second part isn't likely -- I'll stick with the first part.

Modifying the VIN in anyway is definitely illegal, though some exceptions apply (not your case). Best bet is to swap over all the parts, sorry.
