You need to have the carbs off & loosen the nuts on the top & bottom of cable so you can than remove them from brackets.

ou have sussed out that the nipples need rotating around to the slot in the levers right? and for the throttle you will need to do as eaglerider says...

Back the throttle cable adjusters all the way off. Then if you push the carbs out toward the left side (not necessary to have them completely out) you can loosen the top 10mm nuts on each cable and remove the throttle cables, be sure to remember which one goes where. Then, choke cable removes by backing off its adjuster then pushing the choke slide all the way to the left so you can disengage the cable from its holder. Beware of stuck bowl and drain screws, best way to undo them is with a hand impact tool so you don't destroy the phillips heads. Just did my carbs this weekend along with new NGK plugs and changing oil to Rotella T6 and it turned out great!
