hi guys so I had a sigma6 racing jet kit installed on my 85. we shortened the slide spring a bit and did the slide hole mod also, the throttle response is noticeably better. im now running a 132.5 main with 40 pilots. I did away with the airbox and put the emgo pods on it. it had a lot of bog at first but I put some masking tape on the pods to ride it home it runs great. my question is what did you guys use to restrict your pods? I was thinking about maybe flex seal on the inside of the filter to seal it but im afraid it will break down and end up in my fresh carbs. also about how much do I need to block off 1/2 2/3? also where can I get a filter to match my pods for the crank vent? thanks a lot you guys are the best. james

Thanks Blaine. Could it be I need to shorten the springs a little more? Without the tape if you nailed the throttle it was a ton of bog almost like you hit the killswitch. Kinda weird really. I also have a set of 137.5 jets maybe I need to go bigger? The Guy at the shop tried them with the unrestricted pods and it was to much bog he said. I guess I'm just gonna tape em a bit and roll with it. Thanks again Blaine.

ok so I decided to just use electrical tape on the outside of the pods to restrict it I taped a third and hit the throttle and man so much bog so I did half still crazy so I did 3/4 still no good I have maybe a 1/2 inch of pod exposed now and I can ride it but when I nail the throttle its really soft like its never gonna get going and then WHAM off to the races. I really don't know where to start with tuning it. I know there are a lot of variables involved when the mechanic calls me back im gonna get some info such as how much was taken off the spring how many washers were installed on the slide what is the fuel level set at where is the fuel/air set at and so forth I know alot of you guys have been tuning these bikes for years I don't know how to work on carbs myself and for $55 an hour id like to have an idea of where to start any and all help would be greatly appreciated I just want to get her right as she can be and if any of you are close to Delaware and want to take a swing at it im willing to pay for your time thanks alot James P.s PLEAASE HELLP MEE!!

When I done mine I ended up with two shims under needle & 3 coils off the springs.Has a valve adjustment been done!!

Yea but its been a little while. What would make it need to be so restricted though on the pods? Its a little weird and I don't know where to look really. Thanks again blaine

Thanks again blaine Only thing I can think of is a vacuum leak. It's very important that the valves be adjusted/checked every 5000 miles on these engines.

This the problem with pods on most bikes... port blockage, all of them need to be free an clear to work properly. The upper port on our carbs raise the sides by creating a vacuum. If you use the old air box boots, then that wakes them up, no restriction or anything else, also trimming springs causes the diaphragms to flutter creates and stutter/stalling in cross winds.

Never experienced that problem in over 50000 km's.

Well, I tried the restriction and spring route at first but it didn't run right, ran across the boots blocking ports, removed the restrictions and stretched the springs back out and it was right as rain ever since. Made these yesterday... From the old air box: Pod boot and 3M scouring pad Inserted on the carb: P.S. if you do this DIY filter... quick dust the pads with paint you want the green to be... and glue the pads in there. Lol the cloth I used for an extra filter to match sucked right into my right hand cylinder... so I get to go fishing today. The glue mentioned will keep the scouring pad from doing the same even though the boot from old 54MM pods and air box pinch it pretty good... glue is a wise move.
