Need advise: good ignition. I just pulled a bone head move and lost my last key to my '85 454. What's the best way to proceed?

The way I see it you have 3 ways to go. First get a new key. This may be expensive as you will need to special order it from either an automotive lock Smith or Kawasaki. Second get a new/used ignition switch that comes with a key. Should be less expensive but still not cheap. Last get a standard 12v on/off switch and hook it up to bypass the origional ignition switch. If you do the work yourself it could be accomplished in 20 minutes with about 10 bucks in parts. If you go with the last option be sure to hide the switch well so only you know how to start your bike.

Many of us have had that problem, or the ignition switch was bad. There is a mod to replace the stock ignition switch with a (best...keyed on/off) switch, mounted anywhere you want to put it. If it were me, and knowing the switch is good, I would go to ebay find a key blank, then take it and the switch to any good locksmith, who can cut a new key.

I purchased my Car on May of 2011, and 4 weeks ago my key broke same as yours, only it was still in the ignition, and I couldn't turn the car off. Now the other key broke in the same way. Looking at the design, it was poorly thought out, look how thin the cheap casting is that the key is pinned into on the FOB. Eyeballing the thickness it can't be but .010" thick. I will measure with calipers tomorrow to be sure. But no wonder it fatigued.two new keys cost me just over a hundred bucks total at my local dealer, not covered under warranty since I'm at 45K miles. I don't mind paying for normal maintenance and repairs, but it irritates me to have to pay a hundred bucks for a poorly designed and most likely not properly validated part that failed. Then i refused to get new key from dealer and i googled and find Locksmith in Homestead and call them they arrived at time and make me new key at affordable prices.

Go to ebay there are guys on there you give them your key code and they will cut and send 2 keys in under a week its only $20. The easiest way to find your key code it the back of your helmet lock.
