Hi There i am posting on behalf of my Girlfriend who has a 454 from June 86. She has had this bike for a year and when it runs it goes well and is quite nippy. From the beginning it has been hard to start. Often the battery would die trying to start it. The battery was new on the bike when she bought it. The starter just did not sound lively. It had that tired sound. Well this continued for a while with intermittent starter issues. Now the bike will not start at all. What i mean to say is it just clicks and does not turn over the engine. Do i need to replace the starter or solenoid ? Could it be the brushes in the starter motor ? . I would love some advice on how to begin rectifying the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Regards
Dean

It was i good order when My girlfriend bought it. The battery was new when she bought it ( its nearly a year old now but the bike has been used a handful of times.) When turning over it was slow to turn and Laboured. It does go well as far as i can tell ( i'm no mortorcyclist though ) Often it would not start ,it just did not seem to turn over quick enough to get going . A few times she would go outside to it in then morning and flatten the battery trying to start it . I would charge it later and it would start sometimes then. I also wonder at her keeping it outside and not in a garage. It is covered with a plastic sheet. She bought the bike from a bike mechanic. When we went to look at it originally it also did not start and it was kept inside at the time I figure that this was due to not being used for a while.
