This is a pic of my '89 454 as it was when I bought it. The turn signals were all dry-rotted. The seat had several small holes in it as well as a nice rip just below the step up. I am in the process of painting the tank right now. I just got my seat back and it looks awesome. I will post some more pics as soon as I figure out why they are not showing up on the image hosting site. I have emailed White Knight about it. I have a pic of the newly finished seat as well as the tank in progress.

The bike runs pretty good. It is definately cold blooded. Does not like to run well when it is cold. It sat for about a year and a half when I bought it. After changing the plugs, draining the gas tank, changing the oil and changing the battery we tried to start it. It took us about 1 hour to finally get it to fire up. It runs pretty good now. It only took me about 30 seconds to get it to fire up first time this year. Love the bike, can't wait to get it finished so I can ride....!!

;D Nice seat.....good paint stripper, sandpaper, and elbow grease, is what takes the paint off.

Thanks for the compliments and no can't go wrong with that price! As for the tank I started stripping the paint with a sandblaster. The weather here has been almost nothing but rain. It is so darn in the air it kept clogging the nozzle. So I went with a die grinder and assorted wheels. Should have used the die grinder all along. I worked on the tank for about 4 hours with the sandblaster and only got about 1/3 of the tank done. I used the die grinder for about 1 1/2 hours and I got the rest of the tank done! Might I say I am not stripping the underside of the tank. I painted the tank last year but didn't get a good strip on all the paint so there were some lines from the old decals. The underside of the tank looks pretty good. I roughed it up a bit and am gonna just touch it a little with the paint then hit it with the new clear coat. The underside isn't going to be seen so don't need to baby it as much as the top. Works out nice. Will post more pics as it comes along and when I'm all done.

Seems like a lot of work to strip the paint. I remember about 35 years ago, I had a honda cb350 and wanted to repaint the tank. I remember buying a paint stripper that I sprayed on and after awhile just hosed it off. I think I had to do two applications but it took it right down to the metal. I surely don't remember what it was called(halftimers) or if they still make it or a similar product.

Ok here is the tank finished. It is a rattle can paint job, but I used a good clear coat. Another member mentioned a 2k clear coat called Spraymax. If you haven't tried it, it is awesome. I have a professional looking finish for a fraction of the price. I will post more pics of the finished bike as soon as I get it all together. Hit a little snag in the assembly. The gasket between the fuel valve and the tank is shot. So I got a small leak. Soon as the gasket comes in I will be up and riding. Pics coming soon.

Your tank looks awesome.Gotta love that "Spray-Max".You can also get 2k clear coat mixed in aerosol at a paint supply store, the only drawback being that it must be used within a few hours as the hardener is already mixed in.

Well the tank looked great for about 3 days. When I filled the tank I found the fuel valve was leaking. I had no way to siphen the gas out so I dumped it out. Well the gas got under the clear coat somehow and bubble the clear coat. It also ate the paint just about right down to the bare metal. You know how ticked off I am right now? This sucks big time. I've been waiting 2 weeks working on this to get out and ride. Now the tank is messed up on the front. So now I will have to strip all around the front and repaint again. The worst part is I gotta get ANOTHER can of SprayMax. That stuff isn't cheap. Works great but costs a little bit. Worth the money until you have a major screw up like I did. lol Ohw ell gues it is what it is. If I could find a place to paint the tank professionally for around $100 I would have it done. But all the quotes I have had so far are near $200. I just don't have that kind of cash. Hope you all don't mind my post. I needed to vent a little bit and let evenone know why I haven't posted any finished pics yet.
