;D They are louder....I know, because I had a set...only mine were tapered (like h ds) not slash-cut.

Where did you get that exhoust from? I would love to have that on my bike...Is it louder or quiter that stock exhaust? As mentioned in my post "Shhhhhh", the pipes were originally purchased from a California company in 1987 (PO can't remember the name of the manufacturer atm). The bike got wrecked in a collision, and sat untouched for 10 years or so. By chance the PO (Jon) saw my bike while I was pulling in to work (BC's largest mall, Metropolis at Metrotown), and came to talk to me. Long story short, I got my pick of anything from his 2 parts bikes, which included the exhaust and some custom-chromed bits, in exchange for letting him use my 454 to do some filming (I did the camera work). HECK OF A DEAL! However, good luck finding another set. The Jardines are rare and the Cobras are even rarer. IF you find a set, GRAB 'EM! And by the way, they are MUCH louder than stock. Literally sets off car alarms. I'm looking to make them quieter.

Mine didn't set off alarms, and I didn't think they were too bad.....u sure the baffles are still in the mufflers??? Just askin, to make sure.

According to Jon (PO), they're definitely Jardines.
Yep, the baffles are still in, I can see them in the end of the pipes, looking like a round cheese grater. They're not bad at idle or partial throttle, but they are loud at anything wider than half-throttle. I just don't want to be one of those guys with obnoxious pipes.

turns out, the exhaust has some holes in it, the worst leak is where the crosspipe halves join... the junction has sheared off. I tried repairing it with exhaust putty, wire screen, and muffler repair tape, but it lasted less than a month. I haven't decided if I'm going to cut out the crossover or have it fixed proper.

Are u speaking of the original exhaust crossover, or is the Jardines a complete exhaust to include the header pipes? If these are like the ones I had, the original headerpipes were used, just had to be cut off some to install the "slip-on" mufflers, and pipe extensions. If that is the case, the crossover pipe u are talking about is on the original header pipes, and can be cut out, and welded up. If the headers came with the mufflers, the pipe that crosses under the frame (chrome) is the one with holes, and any good muffler shop should be able to repair it, tho the shiny chrome will be messed up, hopefully just on the bottom where it cannot be easily seen.

You're right, the exhaust uses the original headers until just after the crossover, where the Jardines bolt on. I do happen to have another exhaust I can cut off before the crossover, and have a short section of pipe welded onto each side. I have chrome covers to hide the non-chromed sections, they came with the Jardines. I'm planning to pull the baffles and repack them. Any advice?

If I remember right, the Jardines do not actually have packing in them....u stand to ruin them if u cut them open, and to ruin a 500 dollar set of Jardines, would be a shame. You should be able to just cut the crossover pipe off, & patch & weld the headers. My headers ar cut just in fron of the crossover, then I "drove on" a section of 1 3/4 inch exhaust pipe over the pip0e about a couple of inches....now, i can use any 1 3/4" inlet muffler I want to (using older moder h davids now).

Hey, Eaglerider, where are the pics of YOUR bike? I would like to see what you're riding. The Jardines seem to have a rivet that locks the baffles in, along with some kind of high-temp black paint or sealer inside (which also could just be carbon). Couldn't I drill out the rivet and pull the baffles?
