Hey I'm new here I bought a Kawasaki 454 last November and it had a custom paint job it looks good I just want to paint it myself I was wondering if any of y'all would be interested in a trade I don't care about condition as long as there is not much rust. I was told that the paint job cost 1100 I don't really know if I believe that but I have pics I just don't want a murral on my tank

You COULD paint it yourself for prob.....$250 or less. Gotta have patience and time to wait for it to cure. DupliColor Paint Shop System, $26 a can. You'll need primer, base, and clear, so about $80 in paint. A touch-up spray gun will be more than adequate.
It's lacquer based paint, it's not the most friendly with gas, so you'll have to be super careful when filling up. Or paint the bike, clear everything, then take it (just the tank) to a body shop and have them shoot a more gas friendly clear on it for your final coat of clear. Usually takes 20 mins by the body shop, and hardly any material. Might even get away with them wet sanding and polishing for about a hundred bucks on top of what you already spent to paint the rest of the tins, and the tank will be gas spill "friendly". It's not advisable to get gas on paint PERIOD. But if you do spill, it's a little safer.

There are at least 3 or 4 posts that I, and others, have very recently posted instructions on how to post pics. However, I will p;ost again: We have an image host here...download and install our 454 toolbar (makes navigation easier) there u will find an icon for the image host..click on that icon, register on the image host..then follow the instructions on how to upload pics from your computer to the image host, and then how to download and post the pic to your post here on the forum....it is really pretty simple.

It would be a shame to paint over such a beautiful paint job I am offering it for even trade to anyone I want to paint the parts myself I just don't want this paintjob go to waste I will post pics as soon as I have access to a computer as for now I am using my cell phone

I may be interested in the trade....My tank is not nice by no means tho....I already started sanding it down to start painting it but lost interest in it and stopped then just bought a comletely different tank and fender so I could ride. I will have to look for my back fender not sure where it is at exactly.

Keep the tank you have now, buy a different one, then paint it. Just learned this not long ago: ltd454.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=3306&page=1So you're NOT just limited to 454 tanks, make finding one a LITTLE easier. IMO, it's easier to already have another set of tins to paint, and a set to ride with. And to buy a whole set, and paint em yourself, would still cost a GREAT deal less than that $1,100... But I'm sure someone here will trade you. We love new parts! Waiting for the cash to buy a new set of tins for my girl's Rebel. Going to go to a 3.7 gallon tank, up from 1.9 gallons. At 75MPG, that's..... 225 miles on just 3 gallons, to be safe. But up to 275 miles at 3.9. Usually fill it at 1.5 gallons used, or 120 miles. It would be nice to go at least double that. Then when we ride, I'll be the one stopping at every station.... ;D

That tank is awesome! (what I can see of it anyway) The whole scheme is nice. it has that factory look to it, but much nicer with the rear fender, and the NON-CHROME front fender! Nice and understated, not too big or flashy with the mural. If only they had done the side covers.... Nice.
