Were planing on taking hte kids down there and hanging out for a while, and also planning on riding down that way with a buddy one time this summer. living in the plains, I don't know what you mean by the 80 miles is diferent. To me.... 80 miles is a littel less then an hour from me. I can cruise on the interest at 83mph all day long.

;D Me, too!!! Friends are more then welcome at the cabin. We got three bedrooms and about 10 beds, plus lots of camping room. If its a little cold, the upper garage is a nice camping spot, or for more privacy, right down the hill is the lower garage. Just back the Kubota out and pitch a tent on the carpet covered dirt floor. Theres about 2 miles of dirt road that kinda sucks on a bike, but its tolerable. We are having a small get together up there the week before Sturgis, make camp then go ride the hills, and terrify the rolex riders. Got the ranger to get out and get lost on the logging roads. One time my brother and I were having a few beers and driving the ranger in the hills and ended up popping out at Deadwood! So we went and had crab legs at the golden nugget before trying to navigat our way back to the cabin! Fun times for sure. One pic is looking up at the cabin, other is standing under the 350 year old Oak tree that the deck surrounds looking down the canyon towards Sundance.

it might sound a little gay but that is simply breath taking!!!
Zekk, i am in total agreeance with you brother!!
IBM, so when can we expect the invite brother?!?!
perhaps there's some work needing done there that we could help with as a way to repay your generosity? or we could bring alot of your favorite beverage?

IBM, by CC you mean Concealed Carry?
Texas honors all the states you mentioned above.

IBM, by CC you mean Concealed Carry? Texas honors all the states you mentioned above. yep, and awesome! as long as nobody screws anyting up, pisses off the neighbors, or steals anything were good to go. Freezers full of elk and deer, but more food and drink the better. If anyone interested in coming up around sturgis, let me know. we will get the dates more nailed down as the summer goes. You guys know Don Wood from that show moonshiners? hes gonna be there with a few gallons of 'shine. that rock off to the left is a fire rock, and can have a heck f a bon fire going. Plus theres a living room with two couches, two rooms with full size beds, one room with a full/twin bunk, two futons and like 4 air mattresses. not to mention plenty of tent space. I dont let the kids camp outside anymore, because I swear to god there was a mountain lion in the yeard last fall. my brother n step dad swear it was just this tan, unusually large feral cat, but I dont think so. We just has a well dug, too so we have a full bathroom, running water and stuff because the ladies dont like to rough it as much as the dude do.

Sounds like you're just like me, gotta see the handgun laws before we plan any trip. I open carry every day, but I do have a CCW permit. In our state, we are just issued a permit to carry, it doesn't specify as to Open or Concealed Carry. Luckily my EDC is small enough to conceal for those states or times when I need to.

Wyoming is awesome. you do not even need a CC to cc here anymore.

REVIVE!!
I like that this bike is quick and fun and the idea of making it more so, and ditching some parts along the way sounds worth a shot. I just ordered some COP 's from a zx-6 ninja. came as a set of 4, so there will be 2 extra if they are all good, and anyone here is interested. hoping someone here with the 'lectrical know how can help a little with this. there are different 25w 1.5 ohm resistors, 1% and 5% . I'm thinking the 5% ones... but not sure?

I've done this mod on 2 bikes now. 2 129700-4840 denso COP (these tips fit very well in the 454 holes and will accept the bottom boot of the old wire ends plus they are the right height.) 2 1.5 Ohm 50 Watt (or a 20 watt aluminum or ceramic brick will work fine) 2 2006 CRB1000 coil connectors (that's what the coils are from) A little wire and some spade connectors (you need a little extra wire to mount them nice) Tip: Leave the stock wiring alone and just use spade connectors (male) also leaving your stock coils and wires (the wire boots tuck right into the head with the new coils to keep them sturdy. You'll also have back up ignition system in case of any failure. Of all the mods this is probably one of the top 3 to-do's. Noticeable MPG increase.

old thread revived but still relevant today. I have COPS on both of my bikes. and although neither of them are 454's [ex500 gen 1 & gen 2] the info is still good.
however I must point out a few things. before doing the mod you have to establish the parameters of the application. for instance not all COPS are the same so one fix doesn't fit all. you must find out the ohms resistance of the old coils first. then depending on the COPS you use the resistance of those. do your best to work out the difference between the two and take it from there. match the resistance as near as possible to the old coils for best performance and longevity, it will vary quite a lot depending on what you use. for instance on mine the old gen 1 coils showed a resistance of 3.25 ohms. the gen 2 ones 2.5ohms. so a different resistor was required for each. the COPS I used [not sure what they came off] possibly a GSXR but were the later type of low resistance COPS and were at best 1 ohm. on the gen2 the 1.5 ohm resistor seemed enough but had to go with 2.5 ohms on the gen 1. some COPS can have a resistance of nearly 2.5 ohms especially the older ones, on one of those COPS the gen2 would have run quite happy without a extra resistor. so make sure you match them before fitting. also because of the better efficiency of these coils you can increase the gap slightly to gain a better spark.
hope this extra info helps someone a bit. we all like the mods we do to improve the bikes we ride. but it hasn't got to come with any reliability issues. the COPS have been on both bikes for a few years now [total 10k miles] with no adverse effects. in fact there have been improvements over the old system [water ingress into the caps and HT lead issues] .
