Today I got a chance to take the carbs off my bike to see why its been running so rich. When I took a real good look at them I noticed two things
1) The right side carb's jet was really loose. Maybe hanging on by one thread.. if that. Which might explain why the right side spark plug was completely black.
2) Someone before me took the plugs out of the pilot screws and had the set in different positions. Can anyone please tell me if I screw them all the way back in how many turns back out is standard?
The left spark plug looked normal with the exception that it was soaked in gas.

with stock airbox & filters, screw both idle fuel/air screws in till lightly seated, then back them out about 1 1/4 rounds. This should allow the engine to start and run, when up to operating temp, u can then fine tune them for best idle, wile adjusting the idle speed screw to 1150 to 1200 rpm.

Thanks once again eagle! We got everything back together and the bike runs/idles great! Unfortunately it seems like the right carb is still running slightly rich. Is it ok to turn the pilot screw back maybe a 1/4 turn just on that carb? I adjusted the idle control knob by ear because I'm still waiting on the tach cable to come in.
I also adjusted the valves which also seemed to make a big difference!

Yep...valve adjustments are very important on these engines. yes, by all means, when adjusting the idle air/fuel mixture, do one carb, then the other...and yes the adjustment might be a little different on each carb. Progress is good, huh!

Progress is good!! I really appreciate everyone's advice! I cant wait for it to stop raining so I can ride. Just a little more tinkering and I should be good as gold.

So it's an old topic and a long shot but worth a try. My bike won't idle by itself without the choke on atleast halfway. Even once up to temp. Anything under half choke it will just idle real slow until it dies

I think I am in the same boat. Carbs are cleaned And everything seems shop shape. Not to sound like too much of a newbie but where is the air fuel adjuster?? I have Messed with a few carbs in my day but nothing like This. It has me stumped. Any help would be much appreciated.

screw them in until lightly seated, then back both out 2 turns....that is a good starting point. When engine is warmed up, then fine tune.

Hi there,
New to the forum and to motorcycles...especially ones with carburetors.
I tried to adjust the pilot screw to solve the lean mixture on the left carburetor. I did this by turning the pilot jet counter clockwise a few turns and it did absolutely nothing. The carb on the right actually stalled when turning the pilot screw all the way in (which made sense to me because as far as I know, the engine should die if the pilot screw is all the way in).
I've taken apart the carb and cleaned it and still no luck. It is worth mentioning that the float bowl post was broken so I used to jbweld to get it all back together. As far as I know, there is no way to adjust the floats on the CVK carb.
Any advice on how to solve the issue?
Many thanks,

If the A/F screw is making no change than it is either still dirty or the o-ring on the screw is missing....The float is adjustable the bending the tab...
