Either one will work.....what you may not realize, is that Pro Boards (who is the "carrier" of this forum) recently upgraded their software, thus we also had to make some changes in our software.....just be patient, our forum is geared to the 454, which are not as plentiful as the Vulcan 750, and with the passage of time, are becoming more "scarce", and we have many "new" owner members who have never owned a bike, and or, have extremely limited mechanical knowledge. This forum, parent website, and GWK have actually been here for many years, longer than I have.

Thanks. yeah i noticed the forum layout change/update...since last time i was on a few months ago. Im bidding on a MC on ebay...from a vn750, hopefully i will get it.... This is the 85 that i just picked up for $500..needs the new MasterCylinder, clutch cable, throttle cable, blinkers, and some tlc. Heres the first one i got, the 86, it only has 10k miles, but needs alot more work, body/cosmetics/electrical. Got this for $500 too. Heres both of them side by side in my shed....some differences like the mirrors.

All 454s look alike except for the paint scheme, the round mirrors are the stock mirrors for all models. There are some changes in the later (88 - 90) models, such as the petcock, front forks (air assist/no air assist), auto turn cancel/no auto cancel, and in the wiring harness. The 90 model is the "changeover" model, from the 454 to the Vulcan 500.

Thanks for the good info....
i may steal a few parts from one for the other..but eventually i would like to have both of these 454s back on the road. I found out a while back when my stepdad was in the airforce he had an old kawi 454 and sold it when he had his daughter...so i might fix the second one up and give it to him on his bday next year....

Nice find gx with the 2 454's. That sounds like a nice bday gift to get. I'm sure he will be very happy with it and you. With buying parts for our bikes I find ebay good for a lot of items. I always look around for the correct items and the best price. I replaced my turn signals 2 summers ago all around and got mine off ebay. They were oem replacements and I paid around $25 each. I know you can find the cables on ebay decent price. I just purchased the tach cable on ebay for like $12 and waiting for it to arrive. I've got a new clutch cable hanging in the garage as I've had mine break once and don't want to be stranded and have to wait several days to get a new one. Things always seem to break right in the height of riding time. Lol good luck with your work. If ya need any help don't forget to ask. Sent from my Droid 4 using Proboards Mobile App. ;D

Thanks man...im sure as i progress on these bike projects i will have more questions. The guy that i bought the 85 from did give me an old Kawi service manual for it...but i may try to find a Clymers manual for it. I have Clymers for my Vulcan, and my Yamaha Raptor atv, they are great repair manuals.

Clymers is good, but the actual Kawasaki manual is the best., in my opinion.

I have never replaced one, but they are "glued" in...with what, I don't know. If the old one is broken, just dig out the parts. I do think there is an O ring in there, but not sure. I know a couple of member have replaced theirs, but cannot remember who. If u have a dealer around you, perhaps u can prevail on them to see if their techs can help you. Or, since the Vulcan 750 u have uses basically the same setup, maybe someone there can help, in the time one of our guys pops up with some help.
