It's a nice bright and clean area, mosquito and heat stroke free. There's a building out back that has a giant hot tub all in the way, that I would love to use...but this arrangement should work out well. Out of the back there is a deck and then about 10 stairs, that I had the pleasure of carrying it up to bring it in there. It wasn't as bad as, when I carried the motor up them though Of course when it's finished it's going out of the front door, only 3 steps.

Thanks, the shock struts are made by spitfire motorcycles. Here is their listing on Ebay: www.ebay.com/itm/Spitfire-Spring-Struts-Lower-that-Piglet-Made-in-USA-Chrome-or-Black-/310360146856?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4842e803a8&vxp=mtr#ht_2033wt_699They don't leave very much room to thread the cap bolt on there, maybe 3 to 4 threads, but some good thread locker will take care of that. They are 10" from eye to eye, and have some nice give over the bolt on hardtail struts. It's a nice in between solution. Many people that have bought them seem to install them upside down, with the spring at the bottom then complain that they don't have any give... The fenders are NOS stock from the Gilroy era Indians; the front is from a Scout, and the rear from a Spirit. The rear can fit over the rear braces like I am going to do, or under. I popped the rivets out on the stock front fender brace to use underneath the Scout front fender, maybe over kill but it fits in there, and spreads the fender to fit the gap.

As many of you know it's not exactly easy to get all the measurements you need to make after market and non stock parts fit cleanly. I spent at least 12 solid hours just hunting measurements down, to match as close as possible to the ones I took off of the bike. The modifications I do have to make are not all that bad thanks to getting as many measurements as I could. The lines should get a lot tighter when everything is buttoned down, as everything is just laying in place in the pictures. The rear fender is going to come forward about 4 to 5 more inches, than what the photos show. In that position it cleanly overlaps and fits the frames welded in fender curve, to which it will get bolted on. Also in that position the factory drilled fender hole matches the stock seat rail bolt hole in the frame. The rear frame that many cut off is going to be left to support 2 up riding although... I've had this sitting on there the past to days to gauge the mojo coming off of it, as I've been cleaning and prepping the rear tire and rim. Gauging one vs. two up isn't easy as simple as one might think.

I like beefy looking forks, and the stock one's were looking like they needed several cheese burgers, so while sitting there staring at it; I got struck with an idea...Here's what I grilled up: I suppose the best definition of it; is a faux springer. I'm not feeling the back rest sissy bar thing above so it's been cut from the plans.

No new photos today but soon... Update: More parts should be in this coming week, New triple tree, risers, grips, and controls. I removed the front caliper talk about a lot of nasty grime spiced with asbestos yum! The pads weren't to bare metal but not far from it. There was a shard of the old wear indicator under the newer one, the ridges on the disk are evidence that the PO let them wear too far at one time. I don't know if a new disk or having them turned would be cheaper, they can only take so many thousands off if they turn them. The wire harness is off and all the wires labeled; I'm going to route the wiring through the frame to clean things up. I may be doing the same through the bars for the new switch wiring. I've decided to keep the dual cable set up. My swing arm nut is stuck so it's been drenched with PB blaster and is soaking. I might fit a zerk fitting so I can keep the swing arm greased, even though it won't travel as much with the spring struts I have, as it did with stock. When I get the swing arm off everything is going to be cleaned up de-greased and painted. So unless I get lazy or other "life" things happen expect some picture updates soon.

Guess what? Yep update time again; so in our last episode, I was waiting on parts...that's still the case; since a seller slapped the wrong label on the wrong box. I was expecting controls and instead got a fuel pump...lol. So in the mean time, I got to some other business...The swing arm nut was on there man, after it farted three times and myself possibly once it made a quarter turn then it was a breeze. So I got down to painting the frame. I was going to make the frame orange then bailed on that idea. I had to carve my in my moniker, if it's ever stolen Bam! After I'm long gone someone may go to restore it see the name do an online search and there's all the build history. The chop gods required a blood sacrifice today...while razor blading the stickers off the forks to prep for paint, I gave my forks a run through and they are perfectly fine, one of the lower leg bolts was loose and that's what was leaking. The PO is maybe 5'-3" and 110 lbs soaking wet, so I doubt the front end ever knew he was there. Forks and springs waiting... Put caps on to keep them company... I threw my back out for 10 minutes no position was comfortable. So the paint is curing up, and controls somewhere out there, I got some ISO grips that fit the bars nicely. More fun to come...

Thanks it does break up the giant field of shiny that would be there if I polished them.
I decided to strip the orange off of the front spring mod and make those shiny otherwise the orange would be getting way too out of hand.

I think "shiney" on the springs is better....keeps the theme of a springer front end....if orange, everybody would be lookin at that, and miss the rest of the bike.

Thanks for the input guys, the front springs if anyone is wondering, is just the rear shocks; sawed them in half with a hacksaw, then I cut about 2.5 coils off and flattened the edge after the cut. Measuring between the trees to be sure of the length is important with just a hair longer so the tree pushes it down a little so it doesn't jingle jangle. So yeah like many politicians I flip flopped on the springs; the rear struts didn't match throwing off the whole scheme, if both are springs they need to be the same color for symmetry. So... Yeah, I just dismantled the rear strut and painted the springs on them to match. I'm in the middle of painting the tank decoration, The fender is bolted on and happy, I have the seat mount figured out; but it's loose in the photos. The triple tree I got on ebay were listed wrong, it was listed as being 1mm over our stock size which is what a shadow 650 has, so a feeler gauge cut for a shim would have worked fine for those...but it is actually 4mm over and from an 800 instead...so yay awesome. No way in the world that'll work; unless I bought new legs and all that so no thanks. I'm just going to mod the stock top tree for what I want. Oh, I almost forgot, I decided not internalize my wiring; I'd have to drill 7 holes in the frame and I don't want that many holes in it.

;D Hey, now....that looks GOOD!!!! Yep, that top is for 41MM forks. I have a complete tripple tree from a 2005 Vulcan 500 I wanted to use, but no funds for the 41MM forks...bummer!

Thanks for the compliment eagle I love it when a plan wont work, so I have some new art decoration consisting of full triple trees and risers to go with it. I'll say it's in the form of Avant garde since it's not fitting was without warning. If I didn't keep the orange front springs the color flow would have been all across the bottom with a singular bounce up to the tank. So I like the outcome and visual flow so far. The nice thing is it's getting super close to just start mounting everything back up. I'm not looking forward to all the work for the wheels; so I need to just do them, since the not looking forward won't end until then.

It sort of looks surreal like a cartoon to me; of course the fatigue is getting to me too, but it's meeting my vision for it so far. I haven't done much work bike wise today; because I need to pick some more paint. Just put the belt inside the swing arm, some taping prep for paint. And cleaned up my work area and sorted tools...still procrastinating on cleaning the front wheel, the rear one took a lot of work. So the familiarity has bred contempt. I need to get my impact driver out and fit with a bit to get the front disk off, the allen bolts feel welded they are on there so good. So I might do that here in a few, it's been sitting with PB blaster for a couple of days. So maybe getting that off will be the kick in the pants I need to keep going. Even tough I'm feeling a little lazy and burned out, I'm going to try and keep cranking things out. Thanks for the encouragement you guys!

If the PB Blaster doesn't work, try Kroil (AKA Aerokroil). It has never let me down and in my opinion is far superior to anything else out there.

The impact driver broke them loose; Wanch thanks for the tip, when I run out of PB I'll pick some up some Kroil to try out. I cleaned up the tire, I noticed the spots the PB hit that weren't bolts were really clean so I drenched the whole enchilada in PB hit it will some bristles and a 3m pad and it knocked everything of super quick. So yeah, looking back on something, is so much better than not looking forward too something. I'll be pretty much just taping and prepping for the next day or two, for more paint etc. hoping controls come in, during that time. So perhaps another update later on this week.

So what has all the taping off I mentioned I needed to do been about? Some say a picture is worth at least a thousand words; so lets see if one can be a self explanatory tutorial, on how to paint rims while on the tire: Still waiting on the control business.

Dude... That is awesome! And with halloween just around the corner! Great pointer on the painting of rims. Never would have thought to use old playing cards...genius. Just got a set of the Bridgestone Spitfires for my CBX myself. Keep up the good work. Really paying dividends.
