bought my first bike a few weeks ago and its a 454ltd. traded my snowblower for it and find out it was only ridden 2000km after its certification. bike is in great shape except the engine was overheated and he blew the piston. just looking for an engine for it now. would like to put a 454 back into it but i hear a 500 ninja engine will fit right in as well. are there any other twin engines that mount in or is it just the 454 and 500?

The 500 is a direct bolt-in, however, there are changes that have to be msde to get the 500 engine to run in the 454 chassis/wireing harness. And withe the Ninja engine, u will have to change the rear hub & sprocket to one for a Ninja, as it is chain drive, rather than the 454 belt drive. Now if you find a 1990 thru 1995 Vulcan 500 engine, they are belt drive, litke the 454, but u still have to make other changes as for the Ninja engine. The two engines us a different fireing and flywheel...the 454 flywheel, stator, and stator cover must be used on the 500. If you ues the tach, the intake camshaft (it has the tach drive gear on it) and the 454 valve cover must also be used. To use any other engine would require a lot of modification, both to the frame (engine mounts) and to the wireing harness, which can be a lot of work and expence.
