Here are some pics of the work in progress. I received and installed my new engine guard and my luggage rack. There is also 2 pictures of the saddlebag supports. They were definitely not worth the money. Look how small they are? Gonna be having a friend fabricate new ones. I think I'm gonna have him cut these ones and use the mounting L piece. There is a picture of my new power outlet and switch for my driving light's. Will post more pics in the near future when I install my new MC cover, new mirrors and eagle head ornament on front fender. Might also be putting some LED strip lighting on the license plate frame. Gotta love ebay for some thing's. Got the peg's for $23.95. Ordered my new mirrors on ebay. Paid $40 for both. They are that price for 1 on JCWhitney. They are Emgo ride to live, live to ride rectangle mirrors. I am thinking about putting some blue led strips down the sides of the radiator grill.

I still need to get my tank painted. Im gonna see if anyone can get the 2 dents out of the tank. If not I might just have them bondo the dents. Then get the tank painted. I want to keep it the blue I started painting it. Ill probably strip it down next winter and paint all the plastics. And that's when I will get the tank done. Anyone have an opinion on getting the tank lined? Good, bad? Any clue where or how I would get it lined?

Why do you want to line the tank? Rust? There are several rust removers that work well.It it's only light rust I wouldn't worry about it.but a good idea to run a inline filter.I'm not a fan of the liner kits.If they don't adhere properly they can cause more problems than they cure.I would only use one as a last resort.

I only have light rust on the inside. Just though about it cause I've seen several talking about them. Wasn't sure what others thought about it. Also wasn't sure how you would even do it.

Looking real nice,Ben.I was just going over the older pics & noticed that your shifter seems to be bent inward as if it got hit before you installed engine guard. My was like that & I bent it outward (wrapped it with a cloth & used a large boxed wrench) & found it much easier to get my toe under the shifter.

I had to bend the shifter out so I could shift. I could get my toe under the shifter but it hit the guard when I shifted up. I could not get into 2nd gear. It would go in neutral no problem but couldn't get 2nd. I am gonna pull it off again and bend it a little more so it is easier to get my toe under it. I think I am gonna look for 2 used shifters. Gonna cut 1 and weld it to the other one to make a heel toe shifter.

The bike really sounds good. It is quite a bit louder. Its not ear deafening loud tho. I think it has a nice deep sound, especially when pulling a hill at lower speed.

Yeah I like it too. Didn't know for sure, just thought the black would look better to me than the chrome. Now I know I made the right decision! You can see if the one pic the top of the headers are black now. That high temp silicone spray worked nice on the wrap and nice on the bare metal too. Used it on the exhaust clamps on the mufflers too. Once the riding season is over this year I might pull the carbs and rebuild them. I forgot how much of a PITA it was to put a new fuel line on. Its near impossible to get it on the lower T between the carbs. I finally got it after a lot of choice words! If I do pull the carbs though it will be changed again.

Where did you get an engine guard in such awesome condition? Did you get it rechromed? I found an engine guard on Craigslist in Indy and is currently on its way to me in WI. I don't think it's going to look quite as nice as yours but I'm more excited about the function and being able to use footpegs. Your bike is looking great!

Jharding, I was lucky enough to find a dealer with a NOS (New Old Stock) engine guard. I also found the luggage rack NOS at another dealer. I found a dealer doing a goolge search that mentioned they had them. they didn't have them, but they had access to a system that links dealers across the US for parts. They did a search and gave me the names of the 2 dealers I got the items from. I searched for 1 1/2 years before I found them. And yes I did say I got brand new items. Just pure luck. Keep looking, eventually you will come across one or both, probably used but you might get lucky and find one new. Blaine, I can give you the link the the item listing that I bought. I think he only had one of this cover. I hope these liks will work for you. Link to the MC cover listing: www.ebay.com/itm/300828132781?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649Link to the ebay store for the seller of my MC cover: stores.ebay.com/Motorcycle-Supper-DealsThe seller does have a couple different MC covers in his ebay store. I did not see any like the one I got though.

Were they the ones with the spike looking things on them? If I didn't get the cover I got I would have gone with one of those. I'm not a chrome junkie like some guys but a touch here and there looks nice. I'm debating what I am going to do next year when I have the tank done. Not sure if I want to have it painted the color it is or go with a black. I am going to have the 2 small dents fixed then painted. If I go with black then I am going to pull all the plastics off and paint them the same. I like the metallic blue so I might stick with that, but I also like the black.

I have the same mirrors, Ben, tho they are not so shiny anymore...they came off GWK's first KIT, which had been the "benchmark" of a lot of our bikes. Most of the newer members have not had the "pleasure" of seeing that bike....I had the pleasure of riding it......and have the "modified by Kawasaki" for GWK, 2004 EX500R engine, that powered it. Have hoped to use it for powering a new custom, stretched bike...but unknown now, due to finances, if it will get built or not. May just hang up my leathers, and sell everything I have.

Yeah I like the blue too, that's why I tried to paint it that way. Think my paint would have worked if not for the gas but that's another story. I'm thinking staying with the blue but incorporate some black into it. Maybe a tribal design or something. We will see what I come up with by then and who I find to do it for me.

I had mentioned that I had to bend the shifter out because it was hitting the engine guard when shifting up. I am going to purchase another shift lever off ebay and have a friend of mine help me fabricate a heel toe shifter. It is still a little tight getting my toe under the shifter. Not sure if I'm gonna get another 454 shifter or another one. Well see what I find for what I want to do. Maybe ill have to get the shifter painted to match the blue on the bike!

Thanks. There is actually an led strip light down both sides of the rad cover. Its a real thin strip of 12 leds.
I like the look of the black with the bike. It keeps the exhaust very cool. After riding for while it warms up but not bad. I can still touch the pipes and not burn my hands. Works good for my wife. She had burned her calf a couple times on the stock exhaust getting off the bike. Now they are cool and she doesn't have to worry about burning herself.

So I finally got around to installing my fender ornament. Couple rainy days so haven't been able to do much of anything outside. I'll get a couple more pics up for everyone. I'm also going to post a before muffler mod video and an after mod video. For those that were wondering what kind of sound difference the H-D mufflers make. Sent using Pro boards Mobile App ;D ;D
