Ok..im relatively new here..joined this 454 forum a few months ago when i picked up a 1986 454 for wife for her bday, which is at the end of July. I myself ride a 2001 Vulcan vn750. So the 454 is very similar in many ways. I am very active on the vn750 forum...and will try to be very active here too! So i picked up this 86 for $500..it needs some cosmetic and electrical work but only has 9800 miles on it. And two weeks ago i found another deal on a 1985 with 20k miles on it, but is in far better cosmetic condition, just needs blinkers, clutch and throttle cables and a new brake master cylinder. Also picked this up for $500. Here are some pics of my vulcan and the 454s.. As i work on the red 85 one for my wife i will update and add new pics...i plan to have it roadworthy by her birthday...and then once its done, i will work on the other one, and plan on giving it to my dad next year cuz he had an old 454 when he was young and in the airforce and it will make a great gift for him.. Stay tuned for more pics!!

Ok guys...does anyone know if its possible to lower these bikes?? I only need maybe an inch lower... You can lower the rear with custom shocks or shocks from a Suzuki Savage (s40).The front forks will slide up the tripple trees.I have custom shocks on mine. (9")

Very easy...shorter rear shocks. If you read thru the posts, you will find that the best rear shocks, in GWK's and my opinion, are the shocks from a Suzuki LS650, next in line would be the rear shocks for a Honda Rebel 450....both are getting to be a little difficult to find....look on ebay. These shocks will lower the rear about 2 1/2 inches, and drop the rear fender down closer to the tire, making the bike also look better....not way up like a dirt bike. Of course, there are other shocks that would also work, but these two are the most popular.

The 450s will....u will need to put bushings in the top mounting "eyes". We do not recommend the ones for the 250, as they (in our opinion) are not strong enough....the Rebel 250 is a much lighter bike, therefore, the shocks are not as strong. Remember, the 454 weighs 398 lbs by itself, then put the rider (and at times a passenger) and the weight goes up to 600 + real fast.

Just a thought.... Measure the length of your Vulcan's shocks, see if they are any shorter. That's what I'd like to put on my bike, no tools needed to adjust them, AND they are air assisted....
