Hi All,
I'm new to the forum and excited to see a following for the EN454 ltd. I've had my '87 for 10 years with very few problems. Apparently it was once a R.I. state police bike. Every spring the engine turns over with ease and is a piece of cake to get running. Unfortunately I've notice a wear noise with the transmission or final drive that has gotten louder each year. I've adjusted the tension of the belt but the noise continues and sounds more internal to the transmission or front sprocket. The noise is a clicking sound and only occurs spinning the rear wheel forward. Below is a video with the noise. I'm hoping someone here recognizes this and its a quick adjustment. Thanks in advance!

That noise is the sprocket worn & clicking. You are also missing a locking clip that is held in place by the two bolts. At least I can't see it in the video.

I took the sprocket off and I think it looks okay. When spinning just the shaft the clicking noise sounds more internal :

Yep....I would say that there is a problem internally. How have you been riding/shifting? have you rode the bike hard, shifted hard? That can lead to problems...it could be the shift fork....it is sorta a "flimsy" not too sturdy built part, and can get bent, if fast, hard shifting has been the way it has been ridden...of course, you do not know how it was treated before you got it.

I'd like to think Ive been gentle with shifting it but it has been a beginner bike for me and a couple others too. Thanks for the tips

You can remove and clean the sprocket good, apply heavy axle grease to the sprocket splines before re-installing, and that will help take up some of the wear slack, at least until you can obtain a sprocket in better condition, or a new one.
