I have been thinking of installing a sensor in my fuel line with a gauge that can read whatever signal I decide to use. Then I started looking at other options, primarily analog options. So as most of you know the vn750 has the same gauge cluster with the fuel gauge instead of the en450's temp gauge. So I looked at the fuel schematics for the vn750 and the tank looks exactly like ours on the 450- same type cap and all. The part numbers are not the same, though the first have of the number is the same leading me to believe the only difference between the tanks is the opening on the underside for the install of the fuel float system.
All that said- has anyone ever seen a vn750 tank in person? Because I was considering taking the float system from a vn750 and installing it into my tank (cut, tap and all that). But this morning I am thinking-why not just switch my tank out with a vn750 and bypass all the work.
So anyone have any experience with any of this?

The 750 tank is totally different.....mounts different in the front, due to a totally different frame, the tank is 4 inches longer, and is also wider than the 454 tank. In order to use the 750 tank on the 454, the frame would have to be stretched at least 4 inches, and other frame modifications done. The 750 frame is a "dual backbone" frame, and is totally different than the 454 frame.

If you don't mind an exposed back bone you don't have to be concerned about stretch, I personally don't like gaps between tanks and seats but eh that's a taste issue and not my flavor, but someone else can lick it and like it. NOMB There's a gas cap fuel gauge on Ebay with a float that should fit our tanks look for the same shape of gas cap, it'll be labeled for fitting a KZ model. Don't recall the price, but it's 100% analog. If you have problems finding it PM me and I'll link it to you. I don't link out to sites on main pages, as a former Dragon... it's a no no.

Thx for the info. I'll look for it. Alot of times I prefer analog ut more than that I am more interested in the simplest solution.

No exposed backbone when stretching....you have to stretch the 454, to get the longer tank to fit on the frame....it would also move the foot pegs 4 inches for more legroom. The Vulcan 750 fuel gauge sending unit is mounted on the bottom of the tank in the tank tunnel. I was going to do that to a custom build, but never did.

Interesting idea you had for the swap. Did you solve the challenge? Any photos?

No, never built that custom stretched bike.

The 750 tank will NOT fit between the seat and the neck of the frame, and will not fit the 454 front tank mounts...new mounts would have to be fabricated, due to the extra width of the tank tunnel and tank itself. I know, as I have a 750 tank, but as I posted earlier, I never built the "custom stretched" 454 frame.

I actually have a Vulcan tank and plan to install it and get a Vulcan tach so I'll have a fuel gauge. Looks pretty simple conversion. I'll have to make a change where the tanks fits on the rubber mounts. Also I'll make a bracket that will bolt down to the original tank bolt and it will provide a place to bolt the tank down. Then I'll have to cut and modify the seat a couple of inches where the tank will be sitting. I won't be doing this any time soon as I have bigger fish to fry right now but it's totally doable. If I weren't sick and find doing things so much more difficult than it used to be I'd call it a two weekender.
