Hello, i have a question about the air pods.
I put an air pod on my carb, and with it on, my bike bogs at 3000rpm. I just covered 80% of the pods eith fabric and it revd mostly good.
I changed one of the jets, tjink it was the main jet? Tjmhe small ones that screw into the big jet. By changed i mean upgraded to the next biggest size. And help on this?

If still bogging cut 3 coils off the diaphram spring.

I will try that, ty Blaine Hey blaine. If you have time listen to this. Im going to try to gice you as much info as i can and if you can give me your best response.. 87 kawi 454. Shorty exhaust Evap delete. Air pods. Valce adjustment done Needs oil change. Bike starts right up after valve adj. Perfectly. Idles great. When i rev it, it bogs at say 3000rpm. Sometimes it wil bog bog bog bog then rev up a little higher. Sometimes justbog until it dies. If i cover the airpods with one napkin, it revs fine. Although it revs fine, gas spits into the airpods. Both sides. No fuel leaks, no vacuum leaks, boots look great. I was wondering if maybe i have my fuel/air mixturr screw is off? Or if my idel screw is off and thats making my mixture screw off? My mixture screw is out 2 turns from lightly seated. Jets were all cleaned and blown and cleaned and blown. Cut 2 or 3 rings off the carb springs like you said. Idk where to go from here. I did order a jet kit specific to my upgrades, as well as a csrb rebuild just to be sure. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks Johnathan.

Idle screw has nothing to do with the mixture screw....2 turns out is a good starting point.....should be adjusted for best/smoothest idle with bike warm choke off..Mixture only effects idle to 1/3......meatering needle 1/3 to 3/4......MJ 3/4 to full throttle......Being as you have fuel spitting into filter I'm wondering if floats are to high...Also have you shimmed the needles??? Possably to high.

Which needles are you referring to? And im glad you brought the floats up. How exactly are those things supposed to sit? The little metal tab has the float needle valve thing. It has the pin that is spring loaded and the metal tab pushes against it. But how should it sit exactly? Like with valve seated fully and the spring loaded pin gets pushed from fuel flow? This has always boggled me

I mean the needles on the slides.......Have you shimmed them?

No i haven't shimmed them. And i don't think i messed with them either.
This bike is a mess. Now there is top end slap. Best way o can describe it. Like a chain slap or something..... ugh . I put soo much blood sweat and tears into this bike. Like years. :/ and idea what the slap could be?

Mot likely timing chain.....Tensoner likely needs adjusting.....If you get one from a Vulcan or Ninja 500...It is automatic & a much better design....How many miles on yours?? .....& no not a bother. Lol

Before i order it, is there any way i can try to see if i can save the old one? Like steps to readjust it. Or reset it.??

So i think mine is messed up. For a temporart fix, and i cant stress the word temporary, i made it into a manual tensioner. Literally threaded a longer bolt thru, tightened her up and ot got rid of 98% of the noise. For now that will work.
Might i ask whats the differemce between a manual and auto tensioner besides the obvious. Like maintenence wise and all?

Off topic, and kind of more important.
My brother has an 88 454. His carb leaks thru the air side of the jets. Thinking only main but might be both. We adjusted the float and it still happens. Read some things on the interwebs about the float valve needle seat? How do we replace the seat? I didnt see any "seat" on his carb or the spare carb. Just metal. Do the kawis have the float seat or am i crazy or what? Side note, his petcock is leaking a little and we are replacing asap. Also we did the evap delete.

Just gotta make sure the seat is good & clean.....I don't think its replaceable.

So, i took a wooden dowel, small diameter, and put that in a drill. Then pretty much polished the seat with it. And it stop the leak 99.8%. So im guessing there was a small pivot or sonin the seat. And on my bike, turns out 137 main jet is the one i needed. )
