Hi guys, Replacing the fork seals but need a tool to hold the damper rod. In the manual a DIY tool is explained. Does anyone now what size of the bolt head is? Ltd 454 from 1989 Btw if anyone has a step by step explanation? So far the manual is clear but if there are any tricks, welcome. Thank you in advance. Ruben

Just found out that a m8 slide in perfectly. If you struggle with removing the retaining ring on top of the damper, a thread rod and a large washer or piece of flat will do the the job. See picture. It goes that smooth that you can do it by hand.

everybody finds their own way to do things. just use what works for you. I have always found pushing the cap down with a very large crosshead screwdriver woks fine. the first time I did mine I made a pusher (same as a puller in reverse) by the time I got round to doing them the 2nd time I could not find it so used the screwdriver. I would suggest once you have got them stripped you bend the end of the circlip (last 1/8th of an inch) inwards so next time you can grip the end with pliers to extract it .

They're already back in place, keep that in mind. One of the forks is scratched and has some pitting, so guess within a few years I have to doit again. Will replace one of the forks that time. Did some kilometres today and actually on the short trip it is more fun to drive than the beamer. The GS vs the LTD is a tesla comparing to a corvette. Love to hear it howling. Do fully understand why we all love these bikes. Every twist of the throttle gives me big smile. 3rd gear, 4-9k rpm is so fun. If do that on that on th DOHC I'm at speeds where a mistake could give you serious problems. Put a new front tire on it, Bridgestone exedra. Looks classic and has a good grip in the pooring rain today. The back was still twisting at the 4th in the fun zone.
