I searched for a clear answer, but my Googlefu can be weak at times, so I thought that I would just ask straight out. If this is answered elsewhere, please just provide a link for me.
I have the 500 swing arm, drive belt, and rear brake cable on the bike. I put heavy axle grease between the drive belt pulley and the counter shaft - so far so good.
I happen to have a handy scratch mark on the rear swing arm that is halfway (center to center) between counter shaft and rear axle. I put a ruler up to the belt and measure half inch upward movement, and half inch downward movement (total of one full inch of movement) from where the belt sits in a neutral position. I have read elsewhere on this forum that the manuals specs of half inch movement overall is too tight. Are my settings good enough? What is optimal for pulley, belt and transmission wear & tear?
If I am missing something, please fill me in!
Thank you in advance,
TS

Your a little slack...1/2 total movement is fine...should be able to turn belt 1/4 turn on edge in the center
