I couldn't find this specific question in the threads so here it is. I've synced the carbs on my 86 by having two bottle of water connected via hose and a vaccum line running from one bottle to one carb and another line from bottle 2 to carb 2.
Carbs are synced at idle, but when I rev it, the left cylinder creates a bit more vaccum. Any suggestions on what to check? Recently rebuilt carb and noticed that the rubber boots attached to the slides were folded over and not properly seated. I reseated them but noticed they still lifted up in a corner a little. Could this cause it or would the slides sticking be a better guess? I would hate to pull the carbs again since I just got to start riding this season but looking for suggestions

I do think one of the emission lines for EGR system is cracked. The crack is on the hose coming from the right cylinder which is also the one with less vaccum at higher rpm. Could this be the culprit?

Thanks for the response. Any recommended way to delete them? I found some of the plates for canadian models but they're a little more expensive than I want.

Its more of a challenge to tidy up the blank ports than to remove the hardware. I found it took about three or four ebay purchases to handle the various blanks. The EGR ports can be blanked using plumbing copper with end caps or you can even cut up bits of tin can to match the ports, whatever works. The carbs can be blanked with standard silicone vacuum plugs and the airbox I found a matching plastic bung that fitted nicely. The job is 99% the same as ex500 PAIR removal you might be able to find posts online. Just removing the PAIR is a big win for access to the cylinder head and returning to the carb sync question - who knows how wrong the PAIR system can go over time? Its worth removing it just to get it out of the equation.
I have attempted a DIY oil & tube carb sync tool but suspected my PVC pipe was not strong enough and the vacuum was briefly collapsing the pipe to make it more a of a guessing game than a reliable tool. If you can remove/blank the PAIR and bench sync the carbs then this should get you into the game. On this subject I've had glycerine-filled vacuum gauges bookmarked for a while - anyone tried them? I think the principle is to average out any carb pressure changes ovre time. I don't doubt the DIY setups can work its just that I found mine needed a few upgrades if I was going to rely on it and I'll probably just buy some meters rather than spend any time refining it.

Thanks for that information. I've ordered blanks to take off the egr ports and block them off with. I have vaccum caps for the carbs already and I'm sure I can figure out the airbox easily enough.
Another question: Would replacing a cracked egr hose and syncing the carbs cause a bike to not start?
Obviously no but this is my issue. My bike ran, maybe not 100% the best but I rode it a lot. I replaced a cracked egr hose and synced the carbs and now its a no start, not even with ether. The idle used to mostly steady around 1500rpm but dance up to 2500 then back down. It smoothed out alot after syncing at idle around 1500rpm but would have mis-synced vaccum pressure at higher rpms. I was going to idle it down a little but now I can't get it start at all. Any recommendations? I may have flooded the carbs and I killed my battery so I have to wait to try anything. Thanks in advance

Just thinking outloud and hoping someone might have an idea, but would improperly fitting egr hoses prevent the bike from starting if more air than normal was getting through them? Still have the old hoses, going to put them back on tomorrow after my battery is charged. Thinking of pulling carbs again and restting them to how they were before I synced them. EGR delete kit is coming in 2 days
