So yesterday at 12:30pm on the freeway, a driver in stopped traffic decided to illegally cut into the carpool lane directly in front of me and stop. I ended up hitting him in the driver side door at 40mph. I received compound fractures to my tibia and fibia. And bruising from the armor plating. My full face helmet, and tournaster jacket saved my life. My bike is more than likely totalled. I am still in the hospital, surgery to repair my leg went well and I am expected to be released in a couple days. So please everyone, make sure to ride protected, i am living proof of this.

I had just bought a new tourmaster jacket, has really well designed armor. Ive got bruises where the shoulder and elbow armor was. Which means I only have bruises, not broken elbows and shoulders as i tumbled 4 or 5 times and slid along the center divider for 30'. Anyone riding without this gear I suggest getting it immediately. This accident was 100% the driver of the car, not paying attention and making an illegal lane change, he stopped halfway through it in my path.

I hope like heck he got cited!!!! He owes you medical, a new bike, Plus!!!!!! CHP won't release the report for 10 business days to my lawyers. However, I was riding legal per CA laws and multiple witnesses were there, that actually stopped to help me with what they could and they told me they saw everything and would report. One person that contracts me often for work is extremely good friends with one of the best personal injury lawyers in Beverly Hills and was by my side starting the case within 3 hours of the accident. I am in very good hands. The doctors and surgeons both said that it will be nearly a year before I can consider riding a bike again. They said that I have a 40% chance of regaining full motion without any pain. My bike is totalled, the impact was so hard on the front end that the stem itself folded into the frame. There's multiple oil leaks, the forks are bent, the tree snapped and many other issues. Here are some quick photos, if you're wondering about the sheet metal, it's from the vehicle I struck, i'm guessing the footpeg got taken by his car, so my bike took part of his car /flex for the mighty 454! Sorry the pictures are not upright, the image hosting is acting up right now.

Things (bikes) can be replaced.....but so very sorry that you got banged up so badly. I have had 2 bike wrecks.....was very "lucky" in both, in that I was not hurt anything like you describe. Prayers are for your complete healing, even faster and better than the docs prognosis.

Thanks eagle. I was scheduled for the seat to have a custom refoam and leather laid, and a rscing buddy of mine was going to spray her for free. Sucks on the timing, especially since work has been absolutely fabulous lately and she was my only mode of transportation. If the suit goes well, i won't have any worries on transportation. My biggest issue right now is at minimum i'm looking at 8 weeks no work, after that, even with work I have no transportation. And my savings isnt that greatnas I made a huge job change last year unprepared for and blew most of my saving building my new business. You're blessingsnare very much appreciated andnwill keep you updated. I may have to find another 454 for my time when im functional but unable to ride. Am looking at a new vulcan, cspec or vmax as my next actual rider.

Im not going anywhere, but unfortunately I will not have a bike to work on and modify as they will take and scrap mine. I have spare parts, jets etc. I will list them all for basically shipping. I have partial forks as well just sitting in the garage. Just gotta let the pain dial down a lot, so will mid november maybe.

It's early, but if you are looking at replacing the 454 with new......Take a look at the Kawasaki "S". I am calling it the "new, modern, updated, 454". It's a cruiser, but uses the fuel injected, side by side twin, Ninja 636 engine. I saw it a couple of months ago...am impressed.
