hey all. I've got no interest in removing the air box and going to pods, yet. But I am fighting for space and actually have to zip tie my IC igniter to the back of my battery box. I know that maintaining the proper airflow is critical on these these, but think theres a way to remove the airbox caps and replace with the perfect sized cover over the filters, maintaining proper flow and creating some space on both sides behind the side covers? Anyone seen this done or have any thought on this?

I've never heard of one that runs good with pods. You lose all ability to cruise at partial throttle without sputtering due to lack of vacuum at the slides.

Not really true. Sometimes, it takes some tuning. Only time I had sputtering at partial throttle, was when I used the stock 454 carbs with a 500 engine swap. went to 2004 Ninja 500 carbs (larger CFM) and, due to the competition cams used, larger jets...cured all problems. Oh, K & N foam type air filters are not recommended, as they allow way too much airflow for the engine.

I realize now I lack carb tuning experience. Lots of comments about how to do it right have really helped.
