Here it is: 1986 model year 454 LTD. carbs were completely rebuilt and rode for 6 months before being parked for 13 years. Here is what I've done: 1) Drained & flushed the fuel tank. 2) Cleaned and confirmed petcock working properly. 3) Flushed carbs out with carb cleaner (dropped float bowls, cleaned & checked floats & valves). 4) Replaced all fuel & vacuum lines. 5) Cleaned & re-gapped spark plugs 6) Oil change & drained, flushed & refilled coolant.
Here is my problem: 1) When cold, starts & idles fine under choke. 2) Once warmed up, dies when I try to take it off choke. 3) Will restart & run if I hold the throttle open. 4) Will run with the throttle held open until at full operating temp. at which point it starts to stumble and bog until it shuts down and will not restart again until cool.
I ran out of time and did not check for spark once it shut down completely. I'm thinking there may be still some crud in the carbs (added 8oz of seafoam to the tank) and maybe a bad stator. Any thoughts?

So, best fix would be a complete rebuild of the carbs?

Does anyone have a good outlet in the US for a complete rebuild kit (including the vacuum diaphragms) for the Keinhin CVK34 carbs? Has anyone done the Mikuni VM30 carb swap? How did that work out? Was it more of a pain in the D to get them in and setup? I found this kit that looks doable.

So, best fix would be a complete rebuild of the carbs? At least a good cleaning...easy to miss the piolet jets..make sure the o ring is good on the mixture screws

I pulled the carbs, cleaned all the jets and passages, pulled the welch plugs and checked the gaskets on the air/fuel set screws and set them per the service manual (2.5 turns from seated i believe). Bike starts and idles fine but, once warmed up, and I give it fuel, it acts like it has a miss until it gets up to about 4.5-5k rpm. I tried further adjusting the air/fuel with no change. Plugs are good and ignition is reading at proper output to the plugs. Any thoughts?
