no i haven't. i think the 454 would make a bad candidate for a cafe project cuz of the frame rails in the rear. it can be done, but it can be done much easier on other bikes such as standards. just my .02

Cafe Racers were built strictly for eating up the curves, but at best were very tough on the tush over the long hauls. I personally think that the stock 454 LTD eats up them curves better than any other bike other than a cafe racer, sport bike, or crotch rocket. And it ain't a bad cruiser, I did over 1200 miles in four days last year to go visit and ride with my sons and was really surprised at how comfortable it was over the long haul for such a lightweight. Of course I did four days of at least 100 miles a day before the ride to help toughen up the old tush.

i was just curious i just love the style of the old cafe racers i just bought my first 454 its a 1987 int mint condition with 2900 miles i own a 1983 Hardly Piglet ironhead bobber and im more excited about the 454 cant wait to ride but 12 inches of snow on the ground here in va. is really putting a damper on things

To get a bike that looked like a cafe racer out of this frame you'd have to do some pretty aggressive modifications. Probably not worth it. Much better off going for a bobber if you've got the modding bug.

At minimum you would need a new tank, custom rearsets, new shorter forks, new longer shocks, a custom subframe, a pair of 17 inch wheels with custom spacers, tires, clip ons and a seat. And even then, there is no guarantee that it wouldn't look completely retarded.
Here I go talking myself into this project.
The only things it has going for it are the strong motor and relatively light weight.

I'm sure that, with enough fabrication you could make a SAFE cafe racer out of a 454 LTD, but it begs the question- "Why not start with an EX500?"
