Stepped on the center stand lever to park the bike at work, and broke the weld holding the foot lever to the center stand.
I don't know much about welding. Is this the sort of thing that could be re-welded. Or should I start looking to replace it?
Thanks, Marcus

i would weld it, if you know if some body has a wire welder or if there is a welding shop close to you.

As a matter of theory, what do you need to do before you weld a part still attached to the bike with an electric welder? Will it fry the electronics?

i think if you could hurt the bike's electrics it would be talked about on every scooter board there is, and i've never seen it brought up before. JMO

I would recommend taking the part off to weld not because of electronics but because it's easier to weld....it's just two fasteners and a spring........

Yeah, I'm thinking more for frame mods though. I'm in DC and have a mig welder btw, for the original poster.

If you can get it welded do so, I bought a used one and it was bent. Easier to put back together than straighten.

Thanks, Skatetokil, for the offer. I think I'm about to land a $10 centerstand from a guy who's parting out his bike.
If it falls through, I'll check to see if you're still willing to fire up your welder.

If you can look at it while it is still installed make sure that it doesn't rub the belt. If it's tweaked that will be the spot.

Mine broke in 1986 just months after I bought it. Warranty covered a new one and they had a Kawi rep show me exactly how the bike is supposed to be put up on the stand. There is a hand hold on the bike for that purpose and I never had a problem since I used it. You are supposed to lift up and not let the stand take all the pressure. It don't take much pressure on an unloaded bike with a new tire, but you hand some bags on it and have a worn down tire, you need to help lift.
