I recently found and purchased a 1985 454 LTD, then I found this website and love it!!! I have owned one of these bikes before, bought one brand new in 1985, but due to a nasty divorce was forced to sell it. I always regretted it (selling the bike I mean ) Anyway, I acquired this bike from the original owner, 2000 original miles on it, always garage kept, even still has the original tires on it! (I know this is not necessarily a good thing as they are badly cracked and crazed, but it validates the low miles anyway). Oh, and the serial number on it is 000479 The carbs have been fiddled with a bit, and I think the hoses are hooked up wrong. Runs badly, but the gas in the tank is like paint thinner and is over ten years old. Hasn't even been ridden or run since 2001, at least that's what the tags say. I will clean out the tank, put some good gas in it, and I think I have found all I need on this forum to hook the lines up properly. I was considering removing the stock air box and putting pod filters on it, but from what I have read there doesn't seem to be any major advantage to that. I hope someone will correct me if that is wrong. I do, however, intend to remove all the smog crap. Anyway, looking forward to getting this running right and get it fully broken in (isn't full break-in about 2500 miles ;D) If there is any interest in pictures, I will post some. With a few minor exceptions resulting from just sitting around, I'm serious when I tell you this bike looks like brand new.

welcome to the asylum brother!!
bring on the pix, we love 'em! pod filters offer better performance over the stock air box but you may need to re-jet if you do go with pod filters.

Say, what's the best way to clean out the gas tank of that crappy old gas that's in there...or should I just drain it, put in some good fresh gas and maybe some Seafoam and call it good? Is there anything else I should do/check since this bike has not run in 10 years?

drain the tank, then add a half gallon of gas and shake it up then drain it again would be good i think. you will most likely have to clean the carbs as well.
