ignition problems-anybody retrofit?

85 454, stock. can't get ignition to work. very weak spark. changed out CDi box, checked pickup coils and spark coils, both OK. neither plug works.
I'd really like to update the whole ignition. Looking to see if anyone has done this. Have tried emailing a bunch of companies and no one has application.
I've traced down and done voltage checks to igniter box. All seems OK. Resistance of coils OK. O-scope shows timing coils OK. Will be pulling tank off to get to coils next to see if one killing the spark signal. Any other ideas?

You probably did this first, but have you checked your battery? Could be weak, a couple of years ago I rode to the bank and when I came out it wouldn't even crank over... the battery had lost a cell.

Don't think anyone on here has ever mentioned changing the ignition system.

I think you may have other pronblems. The 454 LTD does have a weak spark. I have checked the spark on mine many times and found it to be rather weak. When was the last time you checked compression? A valve adjust may be in order.

good call, Geezy.....that would be my first thought. No change-out available for ignition, except a stronger, aftermarket stator (about 140 bucks). Your problem is not that. Check ALL connections, to make sure they are good, & not corroded.

you can use GM coils but i am not sure about which ones. You have to do something with the resisters too. There is a local 454 member on here who did this mod to his bike. Sorry I am not more help.

I ran across this post from another forum a while back..... this looks doable but I have never tried myself...btw I had a problem with my ignition switch that was similar.... the contacts inside are bad for corroding and the plastic tabs that hold it together break allowing it to separate and lose contact

;D No.1 - notice where that came from?
No.2 - that is for the Vulcan 750, not the 454. They are sorta "cousins", but very different engines.
