Hey. I just bought my first rideable motorcycle. It is an 86 Kawasaki 454 LTD with just under 195,000 miles that I picked up for $1000. My question is(and it may have already been asked, if so someone please point me in the right direction) if I just take the baffles out and do nothing else, do I have to rejet the carbs? I'm not going to do anything with the airbox or anything else. I just want it to be louder. I'll get pics up tomorrow when I can get some good ones. Thanks in advance.

Wrong!! 195,000 miles? I think you have mis-read the odometer.

The way the baffles have to be removed, replaceing them is not an option. In other words, when you remove the baffles, it is not reversable.

mine has straight pipes with a 12" baffle in that. Loud, but not obnoxious. the old ones rotted out where the crosspipe is. Runs fine w/o rejetting on that.

Thanks for everyone's response. I figured I would take a look at it today and found that the whole baffle assembly was just clamped on. So I unclamped it, pulled them off and I like it. Now if the cops don't like it I can just clamp the baffles back on. Who knew. Again thanks everyone for the help. I new to motorcycles so I'm sure I will have other questions. I posted pics up in the photo gallery.

Sounds like u are speaking of the whole muffler, not just the baffles. The baffles are rivited inside the muffler....where are you from, as it sounds like our understanding of wording is mistaken.

I'm from Kansas. I don't think that our terminology is different, just that I don't know a whole lot about motorcycles. I thought the whole thing was called a baffle. Sorry for any misunderstanding.

;D Sorry, Robert, didn't mean to "put ya down". No problem....we'll help ya get used to the terminology...shucks, everybody has/had to learn stuff at one time or another! I would encourage you to get your own copy of the workshop manual, or download & install our toolbar, and read up good in the manual, about the 454. That will help you understand things a lot & better. We (all our members) will make every effort to help you, that's why we are here.
