Well I took my bike out today for the first time since weather was so good. But my my ride was cut short due to overheating. Had to stop for a bit, then go until I reached home. Noticed the fan was no longer coming on. Has been flushed and replaced with new fluid last January. Can anyone tell me an easy diagnoses to find the problem. How do you bypass temp sensor? Want to know if it's the fan, temp sensor, or relay or maybe something else. Check all wire and connections and they look good.
Thanks everyone buggs

I have the same problem, but I know it is my switch fan sensor. Here how you check it; Under the radiator, unplug the wire from the sensor and just touch any part of the cycle body, the fan should kick on. If it wouldn't , then the sensor is OK! Then I would check the fan motor, and then the relay.

Thanks bowler,
So I touched the frame and the fan did kick on and I could hear the relay clicking. So the problem would be the fan sensor correct? I would also like to ask about the temp gage. Is it normal for the temp gage to read 3/4 of the way to the hot side? Or is there a problem with my cooling system? Thanks again for your help.

The switch on the bottom of the radiator is a thermo switch, operated by coolant temp. Make sure all your connections are good, and not crudded up.

Well, now you know the problem isn't in the fan or relay!!!! It's a sensor, same problem as mine!!!! I drove today 220miles to get a used one,but the stupid guy had the wrong sensor. Cost me $35 gas and tolls. Now I know better to buy a new one,it is much cheaper!!!!!!lol

Now about the temperature gage, mine goes 3/4 too,I'm not sure if that's were it should be,but the engine has to be warm to work right. That's where the sensor should work and turn on the fan at the right time when it needs it!

Well what has happened is I disconnected the wire to the sensor and cleaned it. Then tha fan starting working again. Not sure yet if it is working properly and trust it. Did notice this morning a little antifreeze on the ground since running last night. Have my guard up. Might just go ahead and find a new one. I know the bike is from 1986, but I only have 625 miles on it.
