Hi. As you can see on my profile, I am from Europe and I am about to buy my first 454. The bike is a US-model but the present owner does not know if it is a German engine on the bike - the previous owner changed it (the original snapped the cam chain)... SO - my question is: If it is a German engine (27 HP) how can I "open" it to get full flow and 50 HP..?
;-)

The European 454 is 400CC, not 450 CC for the US model. If the engine is an European model, to "open" it up, you would have to obtain a US model top end. I do think the lower half of the engine is the same.

...Not according to my information from a german site: www.en500.de..look at "Bikes" - "EN 450" - "Prospektseite 4" My english is bad but my german is even worse - so that's the reason i'm not communicating with that site. ( I could try in english ..?!?)

I think maybe you are confusing the 27 Cubic inches with HP. The engine is rated at 27 + Cubic Inches, and 50 Horsepower.

I don't know how to insert a picture - so please look at this link: www.en500.de ..look at: "Bikes" - "EN 450" - "Prospektseite 4" (picture no. 4) According to this german site, the displacement is: 450 ccm (27.46 cui) and 20 kW (27 HP) ...so...?!?

There´s something wrong with this, because I have 450 LTD from 1990, and it has 50 HP, and maximum speed is 170, not 140 as it is written in tehnical data on that german page

I know a little German myself, and some of it isn't hard to figure out since English is half German-based. It definitely says: Output: 20kW (27 PS). "Pferdstaerke" is German for Horsepower. The bit at the end in bold says: "If you like, for an additional price, an upgrade kit to 37kW (50HP) is available." It wouldn't surprise me if either a) Germany had emission standards that required the installation of certain pollution- and power-reducing equipment, b) there may have been power options with new riders in mind. Getting any kind of motor vehicle license in Germany is very expensive, professional lessons are mandatory. They also use a graduated licensing program; new riders are restricted to bikes below a certain amount of power or displacement for their first few years of riding. This could be Kawasaki's way of providing more riding options for the beginner motorcyclist. ..but that's just my 2 pfennig. You could potentially try speaking English with them. Most Deutschlanders speak decent English, because of business and tourism. Just tell them that you're trying to clear up some confusion, and that you don't speak German; I'm sure they'll understand and be willing to help you out. After all, you already have an interest in common with them!

(So refreshing that someone would finally believe in me instead of just saying "No" when I'm providing facts. ) Thanks once again.!

A bit old thread but I got '88 model EN450 from Germany and "Fahrzeugbrief" says "Leistung kW" K20/8500. So it is really 27HP version. And it also feels that way Is there any new information how to liberate missing horses?
