Hello all I am new to the site. I have an 88 ltd 454 Somebody gave it to me acouple years ago I`ve got the bike running great but the carbs are leaking at the bowl to body. What should the float level be set to? Hopefully I can get a new O ring soon Does anybody know if there are interchange #s for the O ring. I`ve got a Grainger store nearby. Thanks again

Welcome to our family. Download & install our 454 toolbar - makes navigation easier, and there is a on-line manual there that you can find lots of answers. The "o" ring gasket for the float bowls is a pre-formed item, available on ebay in repair kits, and at a Kawasaki dealer...the Vulcan & Ninka 500 use the same ones.

"Hopefully I can get a new O ring soon"?
What O-ring? I don't see any O-rings anywhere on my '86 Kawasaki 454. The float bowl doesn't have any O-rings that I can see.
Can anyone fill me in? I just put my carbs back together.
Thanks.

The "O" ring is the rubber gasket between the float bowl and carb body. The ones for the Vulcan and Ninja 500 are the same as the 454s.

I cleaned my carbs even though they didn't look dirty. The jets and O-rings (gaskets) are in decent shape. Should I buy a carb kit and install new jets, O-rings, etc just to have new stuff in there or should I just put the old ones back in. My thought is that even though they look OK maybe they are worn down past mfg spec. What do you all do in this case?
Thanks.

The gaskets ("O"rings) can be reused, unless they have been compressed to the point that the bowls are leaking, then they will need to be replaced. the jets do not wear out.

One of the float bowls tips over a few degrees late than the other one. When I lay the carb on its side one float falls first then the other one falls 5 degrees later. I heard that they should both fall over at the same time. Anyone know if this is true?
The float bowl heights appear to be roughly 17mm for both bowels but I get different measurements for different sides of the bowl. Height inside (towards center of carb) will measure more than the outside. Carb #1: outside 17mm, inside 18mm. Carb #2: outside 17mm, inside 18mm. Is there a deviation allowance like +/- 1mm?
Does anyone know the degree of [carb] tilt required to check the float bowl height? I tilted the carbs until the rubber-tipped needle closed. Then I measured. One needle is slightly sticking on the way back (when i tilt the carb back to let the bowl down). Side note: Don't know if I should be concerned about this sticking.
