What would be a good source for air cleaners since I want to remove the air box? Thanks

I couldn't find the emglo's online, I found a brand called emgo but wasn't sure if it was the same, I noticed some of the pod filters were foam style filters so i got the k&n style ones...
Guess imma gonna have to put one heck-of-a main jet in the carbs ;D
I saw a stage 7 jet kit that was for race only... I wonder what size jet it uses...

if you don't mind my asking, how much did you pay for your K&N's?
btw the stage 7 kit i'm pretty sure is not streetable. it's designed for full blown race like with turbos and stuff. if your motor is not radically built the stage 7 kit does not play well. FWIW

It's Emgo. I'd put the filters on and see how it runs. Most guys end up somewhere between 132 and 135, but there are people running 140's too. A couple guys here didn't need to re-jet. Factory jetting is 128, 125 if you're way up in the mountains. You've got to understand how these carburetors work before you will have much success in tuning them. There used to be a carburetor article on GWK's website that was pretty good- not sure if it's still there or not.

I guess i'll have to run 140's since I got the high flowing k&n style pods and an aftermarket exhaust
The stage 3 kit for the ex500 carbs has 140 jets right? I should be getting my ex500 tomorrow ;D

Cool... Thanks for the info ;D I think I'm going to wait another month to buy the jet kit till i move into a bigger house that has a 2 car garage, The house I'm renting now has a under size one car garage and i have soo much junk in it I don't have room to work on the bike I got the EX500 carbs in the mail today... I'll post a picture of em with the pods attached I wonder what size jets the ex500 carbs come with

I guess i'll have to run 140's since I got the high flowing k&n style pods and an aftermarket exhaust The stage 3 kit for the ex500 carbs has 140 jets right? I should be getting my ex500 tomorrow ;D Not necessarily. I've never liked the marketing scheme of jets in "stages." I think it's misleading, and is often inaccurate. The jet size is highly dependent on how much air is moving through the engine, and you're correct in the thinking that you're going to need a bigger jet, since you've got both a bigger carburetor and free-flowing exhaust. However, there's no "guarantee" on what size jet you're going to need. Slight differences in compression, camshaft timing, cylinder head flow, carburetor flow (variances in the same casting even), rider load on the bike, and elevation cause engine tuning to differ from machine to machine. This is why there is only one way to find out what jet size you're going to need, and that is to go through the tuning process and dial them in to what your bike wants. Ideally, you want to be able to accurately measure your air/fuel ratio, either with a gauge, colortune, or a wideband O2 sensor, but you can get close enough just by reading your plugs. The trick to plug reading is that you have to shut the bike down when it's wound up, otherwise you get an average reading of your mixture, not the mixture when the bike is running totally on the jet. This whole tuning process is tedious, costs a bit of money, causes you some frustration, but is very rewarding when you get it right. I don't want to discourage anyone from performing these modifications, as I'm really happy with the results from mine, but I think that many people struggle with the finesse it takes to get these bikes dialed in. You've just got to dig in, do some learning, and go to it. I think if more people knew that going in, there would be less frustration. FWIW, it took me about a month to get my bike dialed in just right, and I had a good understanding of things going in, since I wrench for a living. Patience is the key! Andrew

I did the filter mod to mine and have been playing the jet game for sometime now and still haven't gotten right, runs okay, but has a blog early in the throttle and then takes off like a bat out of heck. I been thinking about sliming my needle jets? I have some slims that are about 60 thou, but thinking that maybe too much, Let me know how your goes, Oh and I really like the PODs did they fit okay?

;D Im playing the jetting game to right now. After putting the Emgo pods on went with a 140 main and two shims on the needle. At this point Im thinking of going up a size on the pilot jet.
P.S. Did a valve job before the pods and WOW what a big difference .

I got a spare 454 for parts and I am going to be experimenting with using aftermarket air filters in the stock air box. Hopefully I won't have to rejet and the stock air box helps with low end torque and better gas mileage.
