The thermostat does not turn the fan on and off...The thermal switch in the bottom of the radiator does that. When cold, if the coolant is circulating, then either the thermostat is stuck open, or someone has removed it...which in either case, it needs to be replaced.

I drained the coolant, looked clean. Dumped in a bottle of CLR followed by water to top it off let it warm up then let it sit for 45 mins. After that i started it and warmed up again then drained it. The clr mixture coming out was very clean maybe like 10 tiny pieces of stuff. So i looked at the overflow tank... It was about an inch higher than full and had a good 1/8 inch of black gunk at the top. So i dumped it out and flushed some fresh water through then filled with coolant while running. Fan is finally working again comes on just after half temp, temp guage comes down a bit then fan shuts off. Thanks for the help guys.

after a week or so fan stopped working again... So I need a new thermostat and fan switch, after there any cheap aftermarket replacements? Or do I just bite the bullet and get the OEM's? Fan switch is $71...ouch
