Hey guys, great board.Ive found lots of good information.I recently bought an '87 454ltd,great bike. The only problem was the headlight and rad fan wiring was spliced and had a switch wired in.the only way the work is if you manually turn them on and off by the switch. The guy said one of the black boxes under the seat needed replaced, well I am going to replace and remove the switches that were wired in.I was hoping you guys might now which box he was talking about.thanks.

He was probably referring to the Ignition Module which has absolutely nothing to do with the Headlight/fan switches. Switching off the headlight is illegal, it's wired to be on whenever the ignition is on. The fan is also controlled by a temp sensor at the bottom of the radiator so jumpering them makes no sense at all. Unless he was having a heating problem and wanted the fan running constantly.

well the ignition works as it should, and the bike runs normal, temp guage works and all and it has never ran hot.if it was overheating it would be going through more coolant, its at the same level i bought it at a few months ago.it starts every time perfect and runs great.im just trying to figure this electrical stuff out.and i dont think it could be a relay because all of my other lights(brake, tail light) work like they should.any ideas how to rewire it so it will come on when it should and turn off like normal.

There is a fan relay under the seat where all the other relays, etc are. If me memory is right, I think it is the last one (round one)on the left side (sitting on the bike).

Hey, I have the same problem with my fan switch. That's why I need to get a new switch censor. But new one is $80 I'm checking the junk yards, maybe I'll get lucky... I think you have the same problem,I don't think it is a relay that is located under the seat. You can check it by turning the fan on, if there is a click, then your relay is fine and you need fan switch censor.
