It almost seems like its running out of gas. It will idle just fine. and full throttle seems a tad weak but works. However pretty much everything else and it hesitates etc... When I look at the fuel filter when it does this, sometime it looks full and other times i cant see any gas in it at all. I thought maybe the filter was clogged so i bought a new one. still does same thing. The bike ran fine till a few days ago when this started.....

The first thing I would do is remove the fuel line & check fuel flow. The screens in your petcock may be plugged. Also have you tried opening the fuel cover to make sure you don't have a vent problem?

Well, I know that when its not running and i put it on prime only a little fuel comes out then stops. Thats when the cap open and closed.

Take then entire tank off, empty it, remove and clean petcock, and THOROUGHLY clean out the tank. Throw some bolts, screws, washers, nuts; whatever non Rusty hardware you have around, in the tank and give it a thorough shaking. This will get the big stuff, but it will need a good flushing. Might as well do it right if you have to take the petcock off. Buy another new fuel filter, you don't want any more trash getting through from even a slightly used filter with a cruddy tank. Soak the petcock screens in SeaFoam.

Also, if you have done any recent carb work, might check the vacuum lines between the carb and petcock. Might have a leak. Or a bad diaphram in the petcock.... Those 3 should get you going.

Fuel line kinked?

Well i moved the line around a bit. Its kind of wedged in there with the fuel filter on. Then it primed like it should but didnt seem to flow through the filter (which is clean and new)I put the other end (that goes to the carbs) in a plastic bottle to i could see the flow. It wouldnt flow. After moving the line a bit i noticed that the line leaks a bit coming from the petcock. As well as when i moved it around it flowed perfectly. Im thinking about putting a new fuel line on there and taking the filter back off and see where im at then.

It's sounds like your fuel line is restricting the fuel flow,if you can see it leaking at the petcock.I think you are correct to replace the fuel line & go from there.

I would DEF still use a filter though.

Little update..... I replaced the line. As of now the filter is NOT on there. I plan on putting it back however. I replaced the hose clamps so now theres no leak. However it will not start at all now. While I had the air filters off i cleaned out the carbs with carb cleaner. Let everything dry out then replaced the filters. The bike wont start. Its actually to the point of every handfull of revolutions it backfires and shoots flames out the exhaust. I turned the mix screws all the way in and then backed them both out 2.5 full turns. Is this to much? I need this running!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

Two & half turns is fine to start.I sounds like the bike is flooded with carb cleaner.Take the plugs out a make sure they are dry.You can spin the motor over a few times with the plugs removed to clear things out.

I also just remembered that I had a brain Stinker and turned the black idle knob several times to the right. I dont know how many times. I turned it back some but i dont know if its the right amount. Not sure what the heck i was thinking to be honest. I think I thought it was the mix screw. I knew right after I did it that it was wrong...

You turn the black knob counter clockwise to increase the idle.

This is still a issue. I have not had time to take off the tank and check the petcock. However while doing whatever..... now my top end is LACKING. I can barley get to 80mph and it seems to sputter the whole way up there. I think i have 135 jets in. I know that i bought 130 and something. The something is whats in there. should i swap to the 130s? previsouly i had 2 small washers on the needle. I took off one to see if it would fix it. Still have same thing.

It still sounds like your starving for fuel. You need to be sure you have full fuel flow to the carbs. If your petcock is clean & flowing well, you may have picked up some dirt in the carbs.Shifting to smaller jets will only make the existing problem worse.

Looks like my next step is to clean the tank and petcock out. Whats a good way to clean the carbs?

Looks like my next step is to clean the tank and petcock out. Whats a good way to clean the carbs? I had good luck with a complete dissemble & a commercial aerosol carb cleaner that can blast cleaner through all the jets & passages.Another method for extremely dirty (gummed up) carbs is to soak them in pine-sol over night.

What does the screw on the side of the carb, at the bottom do? Theres one on each one. Facing the right when sitting on bike.

They are drains for the float bowls. If you lay a cloth under the carbs an open the screws the fuel will drain out, emptying the float bowls.Makes it less messy when removing the carbs. Also some people drain them out if the bike is to be sitting for the winter.I would rather keep the tank & carbs full & add stabilizer.

I found out that when I'm cruising at say 50 or so it still sputters. If I pull the choke all the way it runs a lot better.

would that be fixed on the fuel mixture or the needle?

Have the carbs been synced??

would that be fixed on the fuel mixture or the needle? Idle mixture adjustment only effects idle to 1/4 throttle, needle jet 1/4 to 3/4,main jet 3/4 to full throttle.

A dime to your doughnut says that you still have some partialy clogged passages/jets in one or both of your carbs.

Is the pine sol trick the best way to clean them? Is there a write up? Ive never totally cleaned them. I don't want to screw it up.

Boil your jets and bowls in lemon juice (many swear by it). As for putting nuts and bolts in the tank, make sure it's all magnetic!
