My bike will kill at random times when i'm riding it. It is an 89 with 16,000 miles on it. I have to turn the key off and back on to restart the bike. Would the ignition switch be worn out? Or what else could it be because this happens very randomly. I Cleaned the one on there and it looked to be a little dirt and have yet for it to kill. I have only ridden three miles though. If i need a new ignition switch where could i get one for cheap?

it is my understanding that the ignition switch is a bit of a problem area on these bikes. keep it clean and lube with WD-40 i think should help.
used you can get them either here or evilbay
dealer may still have them new

I stated in another post a while back about this. I have the same issue with my ignition switch. It appears that over time, especially if you have a heavy key chain, the key slot gets a bit loose. While I am riding down the highway, and more often when I am coming to a stop at an intersection, my bike will just die. I then have to simply wiggle the key in the ignition switch to make sure it is actually "seated" properly, and then she starts right back up.
I assume I will eventually have to replace the ignition switch, but for now it is manageable (gotten really good at restarting her on the highway without having to stop). I now make sure that the ONLY key on my key ring, however, is my ignition key. All the other keys are on a separate key ring and in my pocket.
