What position is the choke lever supposed to be in when off? Up or down? Cause either way i have no results lol

On my 1988 model the choke control is a slide lever on the left handlebar switch. Back (towards the rider) is off. Forward (towards the headlight) is on.
(Thanks for the corrections -- my bike doesn't run yet; I just went to the garage and found the choke lever and apparently MIS-read the graphic)

Down towards rider and noticeably sticking out is choke on.

Same here. Close to rider is on, farthest away from rider is off.
