Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster My knowledge is very limited and basic. I'm currently having issues adjusting my throttle / idle speed. Whats the best way to go about adjusting the throttle stop screw / throttle adjust screw (is that even what they're called?) I can't seem to get it right. I'll get the idle fine (about 1200) but when I crank open the throttle it'll stay revved up forever (3-4k rpm and slowly come back down) Sometimes it even stays up around 2000 rpm. If i back off the stop screw a bit, the rpm drops like normal, but the idle speed is < 1000 and on the verge of dying. I have no idea what I'm doing lol

Welcome to the family. The idle needs to be set with the bike fully warmed up.It sounds like you may have a cable sticking causing the idle to hang up.

Thank you!
Ok cool, I have had the bike fully warmed up whenever I'm doing adjustments.
Few questions.. The throttle adjust screw? (the small little screw between the carbs with the tiny spring under it).. what is the baseline for that thing? Also same question for the idle knob underneath the carburetor, that's what's really screwing me up. I mess with one, it seems to throw off the other.
Tomorrow when its light out I'm going to check my cables to be sure. I do know that its snapping shut and opening all the way

It sounds like your carburetors need to be synchronized. The idle screw with the knob and spring opens both butterfly valves at the same time, or at least tries to; if they are not synched then one valve is a little more open than the other instead of being the same.

And the first screw adjustment u mentioned in your post is the sync adjust screw, so more that likely, the carbs are out of sync.

Ok I pulled my carburetor off and cleaned it for the heck of it, and sure enough both butterflies were way off. I did my best syncing them up with each other visually making sure they opened exactly the same.. I know there's probably a tool to use, but I'm working with what I got atm lol. Put everything put back together and fired it up.
Everything seems to runs great, EXCEPT that my rpm hangs up after opening the throttle. I was idling fine around 1300, second I opened the throttle it revved normally and came back down hovering around 3-4000 rpm. Didn't seem too steady either, it'd go up and down maybe 500 rpm or so. It In fact the only way I was able to get the rpms back down, was to adjust the idle screw.
I checked all my cables when I had the carburetor off, nothing appeared to be getting hung up, and the throttle opened / snapped close easily.
Suggestions? It's weird because I never actually changed ANYTHING. the only reason I pulled my carbs off in the first place was to change an O ring on the float bowl that was leaking some gas.

You basically performed was is called a bench synch. If you google that you can learn all about it. If it hangs when you blip or rev the throttle you need about another 1/4 to 1/2 turn out on your pilot jets; screw the pilot in counting every 180 degree turn(1/2 turn) until it seats; add 1/4 turns to that, and back it out, then seat the other pilot and back it out the same amount of turns. Do 1/4 first to see how it's idling and running, if it's still the same issue back them out another 1/4 turn and test again.

Correct me if I am not right.....when u removed the carbs, did u leave the throttle cables connected? And when we talk about binding, the routing of the cables are what is in consideration...if not routed right, they will "bind" preventing smooth, free operation of the inner cable. Still sounds like a binding cable, holding the carbs partialy open.

Check for vacuum leaks.Did you have the top covers off? If not careful the diaphrams can kink & leak.

Thanks guys for all the quick responses =) I got everything running really well now after making the adjustments jetblack suggested. I guess the mixtures were just way off too, messing up my idle badly. Took it for a test ride and everything was really smooth and worked normally again! Again thank you all for the much needed help and happy 4th!
