Hi All, I have just got my bike running after fitting a coil and igniter and it sounds good the only slight issue is when it is idling I it is a little rough on one cylinder it sort of pops like a tiny backfire every five or six normal notes, can be felt at the exhaust as a more power full firing. It seems fine when revs are above 2500. Is this likely to be a card problem do you think?

When were the valves last checked & adjusted? U had to know I was gonna ask that, if you have looked thru the forum. Does the3 bike still have the emissions stuff on it?

The valves were checked yesterday, what emissions stuff do you mean? it is UK spec so I don't think it has any. The only thing I am not sure of is a pipe that comes from between the carbs and points up, should this be connected to anything?

OK...forgot u were in the UK... the US model has an air valve above the valve cover, and hoses that run to two ports on the valve cover. The "T" u are talking about is a vent/overflow...it should have a hose connected to it, running up, and back, between the carbs and airbox, and then down just below the engine. If the carbs flood, the excess fuel is then syphoned off and allowed to drain away from the engine.

Carburetor wise three things could cause this:
1. Dirty or poorly adjusted idle jet on the affected side. 2-1/2 turns out is a good starting point for pilot jets.
2. Carburetors are not synchronized.
3. Vacuum leak on the affected side.
My bet is on the jet. However; if you also have some smoke on that side coming out of the exhaust then the oil ring on that cylinder is probably stuck. Try the jet adjustments first. Turn them both in til they seat and count out 2-1/2 turns; just like a clock faces minute hand for 2-1/2 hours.

Thanks guys, No smoke from the exhaust so I will start with the jets and check for vacuum leaks.
