So a friend of mine gave me an 89 454 with no carbs or battery. The ignition switch was also changed meaning the key is different than the gas cap. Here's my problem, he can't find the gas cap key so I need to pop it open so I can change it out for a different generic gas cap. What is the best way to pop it open and what are my options for replacing it? Thanks for the help.

You should be able to break old lock by turning with a straight screwdriver. The lock/cap from a VN700/750 are the same as our 454.

U can also use a nail or pin punch to tap the pin out of the cap hinge, then you can remove the two screws that hold the cap assembly onto the tank.

Will an 87-95 Kawasaki Vulcan drifter gas petrol tank cap fit? they seem to be pretty cheap and I just need one while I'm fixing up my 89 454 ltd. thanks.

Don't know about the Drifter, but the 1990 thru 1994/95 Vulcan 500 is the same.
