Bought a pair of 1985 454 LTD. One a basket case for spares the other had the engine top end removed for overhaul when I bought it. The engine is back in, refurbished carbs back in. Problem. I have three hoses coming from the carbs, two are new and go to the PETCOCK, the other clear one that comes out of a Tee Piece that sits closest to the cylinder head. I haven't got a clue where the clear one goes as everything was in a box when I bought the bike. The hose part number on BIKEBANDIT is 92059A (see photos - if they attach). Oh and its a Canadian Bike. Can anyone help please as I am really stuck. [/img] [/img]

The clear one is a vent tube & must remain open & unplugged or the bike will not rev up.On mine I just turn the "T" down & leave the hose off.The bottom "T" is your fuel to the petcock. The vacuum hose from the left carb goes straight up onto the vacuum on the petcock. The vacuum on the right carb can be blocked off or "T"ed into the left one.

Hey blaine, the fuel line on our bike is 1/4" ID correct? And as far as an inline filter. Any that fit the ID of the line will work right?

Thanks everyone for your help much appreciated.
I now have the bike running after overhauling the carbs and setting the jets to two and a half turns out. Bike runs but is a bit reluctant to idle correctly. I tried running the bike up our drive way it picks up OK.
However, once I come to a rest it ticks over quite high (no rev counter, cable broken). If I adjust the idle screw the revs drop, when I blip the throttle again the engine ticks over too slow and almost flames out.
Any suggestion?
Please don't say remove the carbs thats a real joy. On that note I did find a way of getting them back in quick using a piece 3/16 x 1" x 10" mild steel as a guide... bit like shoe horning on a tight pair of shoes. I would show you but cant upload an image to this website.
Thanks. Andy.

2 1/2 turns out is just a starting point. You are a little lean when the bike wants to stall when you blip the throttle. You need to fine tune the idle mixture.Turn out (rich) & in (lean) to were the bike idles smoothest & fastest.I think about a turn out will make a hugh difference.

Blaine, I was reading your reply and now I have a question. When I got my bike a few weeks ago it only had 8K miles on it and no one had removed the carbs( or so I was told) My left hoes went into the petcock, I have my vent clear hose stuffed into a hole out the bottom, and the rigth carb top hose went into the to-p of the air valve 9 that everyone keeps telling me to remove and plug off).. so is the right one supposed to go into the air valve or connect to go to the gas line?

Yes right one goes to air valve.Once eliminated you can block it off at the carb or "T" it into the left one going to the petcock.

I have an 88 454ltd and I'm converting it from vacuum to manual like the dirtbikes... but I'm lost as to where the proper hoses go..its dual carb and fuel is leaking from a piece in between them.. is that where I attach the fuel line or do I cap that off. Its my 1st bike and I dont have much knowledge on motorcycle repairs... yet!! Can someone help me... I'm hoping that's the reason it wont fire up.

The bottom T is the fuel hose from petcock......The upper T is a vent & must remain unblocked...A hose just runs from it to under engine

I had some carb hose questions also, this thread has helped with that and I thank each of you. My problem is, my fuel tank has holes for the fuel valve, pet@#$%, but there is a nipple on the right side near the seat that for the life of me I can't remember what gets attached to it. I jumped a vacuum line from the two ports on top of the carbs to each other. Put on a fuel valve that doesn't require vacuum. What goes to the nipple on the opposite side of the fuel valve? I already got the vent/ fuel line mixed up and will switch them out tomorrow but I don't want to just cap off the right side nipple and cause a vacuum issue inside the tank thus preventing fuel from flowing out the tank to the carbs I have searched this site, owners manual, shop manual on-line, multi diagrams and pictures. Nothing makes it clear as to what goes there.
