holy heck this is the first time since 1992 I've heard this bike just fire to life i can't believe it let it sit out in the cold last night just to see how easy it would be to start she fired right up with about half choke
thank you guys i wouldve never thought a bike with 5122 original miles would need a valve adjustment that's just crazy
so now just waiting on tires and yes it even has the original tires on it oh yeah waiting on red-kote for the tank and a brake lever that got bent when i accidently knocked it over

i wouldve never thought a bike with 5122 original miles would need a valve adjustment that's just crazy In all fairness, 95% of motorcycles have valves that you have to adjust. Only a few special models actually do this themselves. The suggested length of time between these adjustments can vary, but inevitably they will need it. Some bikes go their entire lives without ever getting the valves adjusted; and as a consequence, most bikes never see past 20 or 30,000 miles. Just keep in mind, the 454 likes it's valves adjusted about every 5,000 miles; or every other oil change, depends on how often you like to change your oil. It's just one of the quirks of this particular bike. Once you get the procedure down, and learn the couple quirks of adjusting our valves, adjusting them is a breeze. I've got it down to about 45 mins now. I start with draining the oil, and then pull off the tank and get to the valves. Once you've done it enough times, you'll learn exactly which parts need to come off to get to and adjust the valves. (Half the stuff the manuals and forums will tell you to remove, you don't really NEED to remove to do the adjustment.)

And the oil does not need to be drained to do a valve adjustment. No offence ment, but after all the years I have ranted about valve adjustments on the 454...or the 500 also....It still tickles me when an "unbeliever" finds out that what I say is true, and it comes from several years of experience with this bike.

my next question is after rebuilding The starter it seems better but it will still darn near stop on compression strokes is this how all 454's are or should i find a used or new starter somewhere? i can upload video of you guys want to see
luckily it still starts it just need to have the crap run out of it for a while to clean it up well

No it should spin freely.Your starter is still dragging (did you change front & back bushings)? or you have a weak battery.

easy way to try is boosting from a non-running vehicle. If it spins over freely on a boost than you know you have a battery issue.

It still sounds like a starter issue to me.When "hot" the heat gauge should be around 1/2 way when the fan kicks in.

fan is wired to come on with headlights even if i unplug the headlights and fan it still pops and sputters when warm/hot
anyone have a good spare starter or know of a good source/ cheap source for one

well she starts hot now, boys with the Vulcans (vn750.com)have the same problem so i took their advice and wired the coils and igniter straight to the battery via a big fat relay and big fat gauge wire it solved my hard hot start problem so woohoo never been a cruiser person always had sportbikes but geez im in love with this thing now i just need to get the tank touched up
ill get pictures soon for all to see
