I bought my baby 2 weeks ago I knew it had some faults but I couldn't resist it just had a glow to it. The carbs were flooding so I took it apart everything is clean and fine however the gaskets were worn and I have a busted float on the left carb. Would 99 Kawasaki Ninja ZX7 ZX7R ZX750 Carburetor FLOATS KEIHIN CVK floats be a suitable replacement?

Welcome to the forum.I can't answer your question for certain. As a lot of the CVK carbs are the same,I would think so.If it's the same size/shape as the old one, your good to go.

more sure of correct float, if you find one from a Vulcan/Ninja 500.....they are the same.

hi you might go on eBay and get a newer par of carbs from a 96+ ex500 and switch out your jets I bought a pair for $40 and my bike runs smoother then ever and you will get a slight boost in power too.

I just put my float in the carbs and put the carbs back on the bike. Now the neutral light doesn't want to come on when I turn the key. Do you guy's know what might be wrong?

Or how to get the light to come back on?

Sounds like the bike isn't in neutral. I notice with my bike it isn't always easy to go in neutral with the bike off. Not really sure why that is but its easier with the bike running to find neutral. If you are in neutral and the light still isn't coming on maybe your light burned out. I would say the easiest way to find out if your in neutral is to try rolling the bike without the clutch pulled in. If it rolls, your in neutral. If it doesn't, your in 1st gear.

I recharged the battery and it is up now. My carbs are still flooding is there a picture that shows where the fuel lines are connected from the gas tank to the carbs?

My carbs are still flooding Your float level is set too low, or you have a dirty float needle tip.

Just went through and gave the carb's a clean again and readjusted the float heights. As you predicted they were to low. Now I just need to get it all set up and see if she'll fire up ;D. Thanks for the help you guy's.

What kind of engine oil do I use on my bike?

What kind of engine oil do I use on my bike? Congrats on gettin her running! The oil depends on where in the country you live. A 10w40 is pretty much the standard. Hotter climates, you might go to a little heavier oil. I use 10w40 at the first of spring, and then again in the fall. During the warm months, I use a 20w50. DON'T use an Energy-Conserving oil though; it does bad things to a wet clutch. Fill to between 1/2 and 3/4 on the sightglass (I keep mine closer to 3/4). With a filter change it's ~ 3.5 US qts. Also, keep in mind, the higher your average revs, the thicker an oil you'll need. If you ride it like you stole it.... throw some 15w40 ( if you can find that) or 20w50 in it, once the weather gets above 70 F.

A few days ago it started leaking gas at first I thought it was the petcock but after further inspection it seems to be the top T ventilation on the carburetor that is leaking gas I am going to try to fix it before work :/ any Ideas on how to tack this I am going to start taking the carbs off to see what the problem could be.

The float needle(s) are not sealing.....if your float levels are now correct, some "gunk" may have gotten from the tank into the carbs. Many members use an in-line fuel filter, to help prevent this.

The vent hoses are the overflow for the carb bowls. Try the external measuring method for measuring float height, sounds like one float is still a bit low. How much fuel do you have leaking? Is it just a couple drops, or is it a fair bit?

I almost got it off just came back to check on here. When I had it idling it was just pouring out I put about two gallons in just yesterday and now I have a little under a gallon.

Make sure the needle tip is CLEAN, and the surface it mates to is clean as well. Parallel carbs like ours are tricky to get right, since the left float is higher when on the side stand. Set your initial height with the carbs off @ 17mm, then you will prob have to fine tune with the carbs on the bike, with the bike on the center stand. I find it easier to replace the phillips screws on the carbs bowls with allen screws, so you can get them off while they are still on the bike.

Well an old problem I should have taken care of has come to haunt me lol looks like the other original float has gone bad. I was running seafoam through to see what would happen and darn this stuff is a miracle worker. Now I just have to wait on the parts /: Three month's on a bike that wasn't meant to become a project ha. Thanks I would still be stuck on the batter if it wasn't for you guy's

Thanks I would still be stuck on the batter if it wasn't for you guy's Unfortunately, most older bikes require a lil attention; but once you get all the bugs worked out, you're gonna LOVE her! A good idea for anyone out there doing a carb rebuild, new floats should always be on your list if your carbs have the originals in them. It can save you a ton of headaches down the road.
