Finally got the carb cleaned and bench synced but found that the hose to the air valve was totally kinked on one side.. Any suggestions on how I can test this thing to make sure it still works before i reinstall it. Im thinking that could be why shes running so rough, spitting sputtering and idling up and down .. inconsistent air flow.

If you are referring to the "valve" above the valve cover that has 2 hoses that go to each side the valve cover: that's not going to affect the running running condition all that much. It's really not "needed" and many members remove that system anyway.
I still say it's a carb issue. Since you say you synced them (and I think I remember you took the carbs apart from each other), you may have bench synced them, but they need to be vacuum synced; and make sure all your existing vacuum lines are in good condition. Carbs out of sync will run poorly, and some will idle up and down, as you described. Bench syncing cannot account for the difference in vacuum between each side of the engine. The bench sync CAN get you close, but it won't be fine tuned.
Also check for an intake leak, this can also cause idling up and down.

I was planning on taking it to the garage to have a full sync done once I got it running well enough to get it over there. I just watched some vids on checking for a vacuum leak with starter fluid( or propane) Ill try that tonight when i get home. The boots looked to be in pretty good shape, I just may not have them back on and sealed up tight enough ( that prb of reving up and down didnt start til after I cleaned the carbs)
Since the 16126-1005 aint really important, I wont worry about checking it, ill just replace it with non kinked hose and focus more on getting the carbs in order.

If u are talking about that air valve that is above the valve cover, and connected to the two ports on top of the valve cover, I would just take it off, plug the two ports, and the vacum hose that goes to it from the carb.

Really? You mean the air valve is not really needed? I have been replacing that 1/4" house that runs from that air valve into the right carb side of the bike every year because it kept kinking and cracking. I replaced all the vacuum hoses and I no longer hear hissing but now I have another issue--bike stalls and won't start sometimes. Probably need to adjust valves (it's been 3 yrs and @ 6k miles) and carbs were cleaned then too but not synced.

Nope get rid of it.You can block off the carb nipple or "T" it into the other vacuum for the petcock.
