UGH Now its leaking gas and oil....

OK, Trust me guys i REALLY LOVE this bike but im getting so frustrated.. I took it to the garage( my first mistake) and got it back in worse shape then when it left. ( it was running when I go tit there, had overheated a few times but just needed inspected)

THey removed the gaskets in my thermostat housing and where the radiator pipe enters it so they both leaked. New gaskets installed and that prob now fixed.

Shifter cover was leaking oil. I opened it up and low and behold THAT gasket was also missing.. that has now been replaced BUT
1. my shifter ( clutch pedal whatever you want to call it) now wiggles back and forth with play from the bike to the foot peg and has a slow oil leak around it that I cant seem to stop AND

Carbs were a hot mess ( sat with old gas in it for over 3 years). took them out, cleaned them up, got them back in. Corrected the air leak from not tightening them down enough so it stopped reving up and down. Removed the plugs and checked the pilot screws.

Now, 1. it doenst wanna idle well( full choke I get 1 RPM instead of the 3-4 I was getting and when it finally did idle up after adjusting the idle started leaking gas) and 2. Its running gas outta my left airbox.( all fuel lines are secure wiht clamps down nice and tight already checked that and the overflow vent clear tube is empty)
I resnugged the pilot screws ( they were onyl about 1/2 turn each when I took the plugs out and I made them 2 each) thinking I was giving it too much gas. The float needles were both in good shape when I checked them but Im wondering if the left one went bad and thats the problem? I didnt even hook up the sync tool yet bc of the gas dripping problem.

I REALLY dont wanna take them back off again but I will if I have to.
Shes a gorgeous machine that ran "ok" when i got her and I was hoping to bring her back to her glory and enjoy her this summer but at this rate.. SIGH Let me tell ya, you guys are the best as far as info goes.. hopefully one day I can pay it forward and help give someone else some helpful info.. Right now all I got is have your daughter stick her small hands into the airbox to pop the boot back out for you when reinstalling the carbs.lol

Hi. OK I tried a search and didnt seem to find anyone else with this issue. I apologize im new to bike repair( cars yes bikes no). I had an oil leak around the bottom few bolts on the left side of my bike( behine the gear shift). We assumed it was a bad gasket. I toook it to the garage( mistake # 1) and they told me it was oil from my clutch. ( yes remember Im new)So I said, after several other issues with them, STOP touching my Bike Ill come get it.

I picked it up, ordered a seal and it arrvied this weekend while I was away. As did my repair manual. I got home, popped off all 9 bolts and oil flowed everywhere.

Replaced the seal and bolts and looked in and was surprised not to find my clutch..

Now
1. From what I could find to read theres not supposed to be oil in there.. is that true???
2. Now the gear shift is loose( wiggles from the cover to my peg) and oil is leaking from around where it enters the engine cover.

I didnt remove any botls, nuts etc associated with the gear shift ( only the 9 holding the cover in place and pulled it off) so how do I retighen that an d/or stop the oil leak ( unless the above questions answer is NO theres not supposed ot be oil in there) in which case.. then WHY is there oil in there or where do i look to fix that probelm?

Your shifter should have a washer & spring clip on the shaft(in by the cover) to take out play.You must still have a slight oil leak at your cover & its dripping down on to the shaft.If you have gas leaking out,than the needle is sticking.You may get away by adding some SeaFoam in a tank of fuel.Also try tapping the float bowel of the leaking carb,sometimes that will help.The pilot screws need to be set with the bike idling warm. 2 1/2 turns is only a good starting point.

Or, the floats are set too high, causing the leaking carbs. And....The clutch (wet clutch) is behind the sorta flat big cover on the right (sitting on the bike) side. The cover with the shift lever attached is the stator cover, as you have found out, and it will have maybe a couple of tablespoons of oil in it. And you likely did not get the shift lever put back in its original position, causing the sloppiness, or loosness in the shift linkage, or, as Blaine said, the washers were not installed on the shaft. The shift linkage can be adjusted...instructions are in the manual. When replaceing the gasket, the cover and engine case must be clean of all gasket material, and the gasket should be installed "dry", and care taken so it does not get out of place, when putting the cover back on, as the magnets in the flywheel kinda "suck the cover on", and will pull it out of your hands.

Changed the float needles and readjusted the pilot screws. Synced the carbs and shes running GREAT!!! thansk guys!!! The oil leak.. well that stopped on its own so I didnt look that gift horse in the mouth and just moved on
