So to begin I apologize for my lack of knowledge. This is my first go at modifying anything with a motor. I purchased a 86 454LTD and it literally ran like a dream. I decided I want to bob it so I wanted to remove the air box to create some space to relocate the wiring. I purchased the pod filters recommended on the forum and soon as I added them the bike wouldn't run. I then did some digging on here and came across tons of threads suggesting rejetting carb pin shimming and diaphram spring trimming. I started with the shimming as that was easy and quick and I was able to get the bike running. I took it for a spin and if I stayled below 5500 rpms It ran pretty good. When I attempted to go beyond 5500/6000 the bike would choke and lose power. (bogging I believe). From what I could tell on various threads on here it seemed It was time to rejet. I ordered #130 Jets which seemed to be a good place to start. Adding the jets seemed to help, but still choked up at the 6k range if I barreled through 6k it would pick up again and accelerate to redline just fine. I noticed after driving it a bit and experiencing the bogging the bike would then not idle very well and end up stalling if I didnt keep giving it gas when stopped. Next I decided to cut the diaphram spring one coil at a time and stopped at 3. Didnt really see a change in this. I then decided to remove the shims thinking maybe I am now giving it too much gas? Also tried socks on the pods and I didnt experience a change. I am now stuck and not sure which direction to go. With the symptoms does it seem my air to gas ratio needs more or less gas? I apologize for my ignorance but any help would be greatly appreciated. I was also curious if rejetting included more than just the main jet? I only changed that as I think thats what the threads advised. Thanks for any any all insight!!
