Tail lights will not light up. Blinkers work. There is a blue wire on the right rear and a black wire on the left rear...both have what appear to be bullet connection male plugs but nowhere to hook them up to. Where do these attach to?

The rear lights should only have 2 wires in them, if you have 3 wires on each, they are front lights. The rear only uses the signal, not the running lamp. The brake/tail lamp is the only rear light that is on with the ignition on.

Okay, well all 4 lights had 3 wires. The running light on the rear don't light up but the turn signals work. What could cause that?

That is correct, there is no problem. The signal assembly looks and mounts the same front or rear, onlt dofference is that you need 3 wires for the front and only 2 for the rear. Just tape off the extra wire on the rears and go riding....

Hello, seems like I have a similar problem except that my tail lights and license plate light will not light up when I turn the iginiton. Both brakes light up the tail light and the blinkers blink with a weird half pause when I hit either turn signal. I've taken apart just about everything in the back and it seems like the connections are fine. I have a mulitmeter, just not sure how to use it to check anything.

Sounds like you do not have the correct wires connected to where they are supposed to go. Turn signal problem (if connected right) could be the flasher unit.

of all things.. it was the ignition switch. the red wire that leads from it all the way from it to the tail and plate lights had no power going through it. switch it out and boom. like gold.

Left a fuse sitting on top of the #2 & #3 fuse terminals which melted the brand new headlights I had installed while burning out my license and rear running light. So I put new blinkers and bulbs in. Turn signals work fine but my running lights aren't...running... any ideas before I retrace the wiring? thanks, Ben
