My uncle recently gave me his 85 454 that he was the original owner of. It only has 3100 miles on it, but it was kept in a 3 wall shed so rain/mud was splashed onto it over the years. He told me that the blinkers had stopped working, and he didn't know why, so he cut them off. I got the new replacements online and installed them, and they turn on, but will not blink. My initial though was the blinker, so I took a "blinker" off of our other bike to test my theory, but that did not work. I can hear and feel the "click" when they come on, but that's as far as they get. The front running lights come on the way they should, and the blinkers only come on when the switch is pressed..just no blink. Any ideas?

do both the front and rear light when the switch is moved? it it happening on both sides? did you clean all the contact points well? are the new lights wired into the harness correctly? Check all those items first and we can go from there.

Yes..both front and back come on, and on both sides. Contacts are clean...lights are wired correctly. This happened when the original lights were on there too..its not because of something I did...

No ideas? I wondered if there was a common problem I was not able to find information on. Other than the switch, the blinker, and the lights themselves, are there any other components to the turn signal system I'm not aware of? I ask because I know there is the thing that keeps the headlight on if one of its filaments burns out..so I wondered if there is anything unusual like that in the blinker system I don't know about.
